Scalley is making about $325k right now. We paid Clune $200k last year.Chatman wrote:Scalley would definitely come for the d-coordinator job, no doubt. The question is more, would we want him? It would be a risky hire as he has no coordinating experience. However, the recruiting benefits might be worth the risk. If I were Wells, I would consider it.

It's looking like it's going to be two years in a row that we're replacing both Coordinators....

Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
This is the biggest concern that I have seen with the majority of the names that have been thrown out as potential coaches. We don't pay our coordinators as much as position coaches are getting paid at P5 schools. I hope what Ahbye said is correct, and in the next couple years, this will be rectified with the new revenue streams.swishh_15 wrote:Scalley is making about $325k right now. You have some inside info that's worth sharing? Or just some solid speculation based on likely salary increase that Clune would make that you're thinking he leaves for?ratofallaggies wrote:It's looking like it's going to be two years in a row that we're replacing both Coordinators....
I'd say an 'interview' seems pretty likely that he's leaving. However, I was wrong about Ken N & BYU so I don't know what to think anymore.

I think Lorig would be great. I'd be interested to know what the players think of him.

I can tell you that Clune is gone. How do I know? Because I can also figure out 1+1=2. I like to call it common sense.

Serious question: are you supposed to tip the guy or gal that is pumping your gas?ag4fr wrote:It's complex work.
I mean you have to make that little pump trigger holder thingy work right and do all that while making pleasant conversation and running someone's credit card.
Not just anybody can do this! Least of all Joe Automobile Owner. Sheesh!
Sometimes it is ok to look around and if the only other place that has this law is New Jersey, it might be ok to rethink it.

LKGates Yup when I used to go up to the Oregon coast for my Job in March and July from here in St. Greed, we would always get gas close to Spirit Mt. Casino. I still get it there now when I go up to see my daughter in Aberdeen, Wash. In Aberdeen I like to get gas at a tribal station that has no-ethanol gas. Same price but I get a lot better performance and better milage, I am all for the non-ethanol gas! Plus, Dairy Queen is close by for my wife's brown topper and my Vanilla cone.
By the by, would an old Aggie alum and player want or take a Coordinator job? Baer that is? Or is he too proud to only expect a head coach job? I still think he would be a good D-Coord.

Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
HA HA. This is exactly what I thought when I heard about Clune interviewing at OSU. I think Hawaii's defense last year, while improved, was nothing to write home about. I think our defense took a step back this year. It is pretty surprising to me that Gary would interview Clune.Chupamedia wrote:I think Gary needs to meet more people
Isn't Orlando still at Houston? Couldn't OSU give him a raise? Wouldn't it be a move up for Orlando to go to a P5 team? That is who I would have my sights on if I was Gary.

Is Clune the only candidate? He may be 100% gone if he receives an offer. I just am not certain that interview equals offer.swishh_15 wrote:I can tell you that Clune is gone. How do I know? Because I can also figure out 1+1=2. I like to call it common sense.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Maile or Morgan Scalley as a DC hire.
As for the D-Line I think Hans had a great idea with Sione Po'uha. Ex-NFL player who is extremely well respected in the Polynesian community. Would help a lot with the Polynesian pipeline recruiting.

What about John Rushing. Formerly our Corner back coach and has spend several years as an assistant with the Packers. Currently their defensive quality control coach

Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
Since Clune already has a close relationship with Gary and has worked directly for him before, I would assume that the "interview" was a formality. Gary's not trying to find out who Clune is. He already knows. If he flew him out there he's got a pretty good idea that he's got a good shot at the job.Zaggie07 wrote:Is Clune the only candidate? He may be 100% gone if he receives an offer. Shaver would be interesting. Should Clune go, Lorig could move back to coaching the LBs and we could hire Grad assistant Manoa Latu full time to coach the safeties, as he was a safety at Portland state.ratofallaggies wrote:Would not be upset with Shaver getting a shot either.

My opinion is it will be OSU's loss while it is USU's gain. I don't have any suggestions for DC and I have already plugged Canales as OC. Shaver and Bouknight would be my personal choices. Very strong recruiters and arguably WR and DB have been our best positions for development over the past 5-7 years.

Chicago, I don't necessarily disagree. I like Canales, but let's face it - his offenses have struggled at times. I know there's a lot of factors that go into being successful offensively; some outside of the OC's control. Give us a sales pitch for Canales.ChicagoAggie wrote:My opinion is it will be OSU's loss while it is USU's gain. I don't have any suggestions for DC and I have already plugged Canales as OC. Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
He is a very creative offensive mind. When you have talent like we do I believe a coach like Canales can be very successful given he has some freedom in driving the offense. Oh, and I played for him. I know what kind of coach he is and I know how players react to him. I am not a salesman so if this isn't good enough for you then you'll have to look elsewhere.AngusAg wrote:Chicago, I don't necessarily disagree. Let's take a chance. Canales and scalley. Morgan has the "it" factor. Proven, no worth taking a chance and grooming for our next head coach? I say yes. Ready for a guy that players will run through walls for. Don't think we have this in either basketball or football. Pony up and get scalley.

Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
Utah's DC is about 85 years old. Scalley was talked about last go around. If he was looking to move right now, you can bet Sitake would have scooped him up at byu.
Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
I would hire Kirk Copeland in a heart beat. He is a head coach for a high school in Boise, but the guy can coach & was a great player who has a passion for the game. He loves the game and would give it his all. Never seen a player or coach yet who could match his passion and effort. Somebody is going to grab him, we should be first.

Said this over on Scout but I'll repost it here. This is one scenario that I would like to see.
Jovon as OC and Kendrick as DC. Move Joe Lori back to LB and promote Manoa Latu to safeties ( or bring in Donald Dicko) then bring in Sione Pouha as DL coach and Chuckie at QB coach. Done

If true, I'm quite surprised. It really doesn't seem like a big-time hire for OSU. I am really starting to wonder if GA will be able to turn things around there or not.ratofallaggies wrote:Done
Also, I was watching Wiscy/USC last night. No way we could ever get Aranda back. Not as head coach, and certainly not as DC with a promise of head coach in the future. He was getting serious praise all night from the commentators - many mentions that he is one of the up and coming stars in college football.
As for Scalley, I don't buy that he turned down the DC at byu. From all accounts, Tuiaki is and has always been Kalani's guy.

Clune get's a bit of undeserved criticism around here for some reason. The guy is a real tactician that knows the game up and down and will fit in perfectly under GA. Aranda will be the favorite as DC at LSU now that Steele left for Auburn.AgMac wrote:If true, I'm quite surprised. It really doesn't seem like a big-time hire for OSU. Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
I don't think it is completely undeserved. Our defense was not as good this year as it was under Orlando. In fact, I think we were a fairly average MWC defense. Apart from this year, he has one other year as DC under his belt at Hawaii. Again, although improved, Hawaii didn't have a stellar defense under Clune.ratofallaggies wrote: Clune get's a bit of undeserved criticism around here for some reason. I'm just saying that I think it is probably an underwhelming hire for OSU fans. If GA can't start to show improvement in the next few years, there may be some unrest.

Re: Clune interviewing in Corvallis today
This is my point -- The defense mishaps this year weren't really a direct correlation to Clune as a DC. There were a lot of other factors that went into it. Of course you're entitled to your opinion just as much as I am to mine.AgMac wrote:I don't think it is completely undeserved. Our defense was not as good this year as it was under Orlando.
