What if every Aggie player in the NFL

Post by aggieaz » September 26th, 2017, 11:05 am

was on USU's team right now, this is what the team would look like.

Which Aggie player past/present would you add to fill the gaps?

Offense

QB – Anthony Calvillo (1992–1993)
Devante Mays (RB)
Robert Turbin (RB)
Kerwynn Williams (RB)

WR - Matt Austin (2009-2012)
JoJo Natson (WR)
Hunter Sharp (WR)

D.J. Tialavea (TE)
Tyler Larsen (C)
Donald Penn (OT)
OT – Len Rohde (1957–1959)
OG – Rich Tylski (1990–1993)
OG – Jim Hough (1974–1977)

Patrick Scales (LS )
PK – Jim Turner (1961–1963)
P - Peter Caldwell (2007-2010) avg punt 41.9

Defense

DL - Merlin Olsen (1967–1969)
DL – Greg Kragen (1980–1983)
DL - Lionel Aldridge (1960–1962)
Kyler Fackrell (LB)
Nick Vigil (LB)
Zach Vigil (LB)
Bobby Wagner (LB)

Maurice Alexander (S)
Marwin Evans (S)

Nevin Lawson (CB)
Will Davis (CB) (cut this year, but I'll keep him)

I'd dump Matt Austin for Kevin Curtis.
Micah Knorr actually spent a few years punting for the Cowboys.
As much as I like Willie D, with him not being on an active roster, I'd put Cornell Green there.

D.J. Tialavea (TE) is still on a practice squad so technically he is in the NFL.

He said past or present. I would take Cooley over DJ.

Can you remind this young aggie (referring to myself) who is Cornell Green?

The question was who would you pick to fill the gaps, not replace the current ones in the NFL.

Ah, I misunderstood. I interpreted gaps as best player who had ever played in the NFL.

While I am no where near old enough to have seen him play, I believe Cornell had the most distinguished NFL career at cornerback for a former Aggie (even though he played hoops at USU).

In that case, I would definitely take Cooley

That is impressive, especially considering he didn't play football in college and was drafted to NBA the same year. It's cool he still holds the rebounding record at USU. Thanks for pointing him out.

Rulon Jones/Greg Kragun... might be a tossup there.

I am too young to know the differences between those two players other than stats. Who would be the deal breaker and why?

Al Smith - Linebacker for the Houston Oilers. All pro and two time pro bowler. Late 80's early 90's
Patrick Allen - Corner for the Houston Oilers for 7 years. I think started most of those years. mid-late 80's

In my recollection Rulon Jones was the better player, but when he fell off he fell big. Went from great to nothing in a year or two. Kragun was not as good overall, but seemed to come up big from time to time.

Long time ago though. A bit fuzzy.

I'd probably take Eric Hipple as QB or Calvillo. Though Calvillo had perhaps the best CFL career ever for a QB, Hipple played in the NFL for many years with the Lions.

Definitely Curtis over Austin as a WR.

Anybody want Ade Jimoh as CB? Nah, me neither.
