Not Football...But Logan Hero sold

Post by MWCFAN12 » October 15th, 2018, 1:48 pm

I know a lot of Aggie fans stop here on there way to the game and in some cases it is must go to. But Logan Hero has been sold. It will change ownership On Monday Oct 22. Sorry for the bad news.. Hamid Saldi is staying in the valley. He is a good guy and good Aggie. For those that are old will remember him starting out in the TSC on campus. Mods you can move this if you want but thought it would get more views here. Here is hopping it stays the same.

Knew it was coming eventually, but still some sad news.

It would be great to see the community show up to show their support before it changes hands.

If you're ever in Philly , DO NOT show up at Pat's or Geno's with a CC or you will get chewed out - soup nazi style :)

In all honesty it was one of my fav. spots. I also went to the Factory a lot too- (but mainly because Fernando is dope AF).

Food in Logan isn't all that good- but those are 2 spots that can compete with a lot of places.

You can add Herm's and Tandoori oven to that list. Top of the line food in their respective categories.

Have you had brunch or Indian outside of Logan?

I don't mean to knock it- and by all means, everyone has their list- but places like Herm's, Tandoori, and even places like Angie's are good- better than most places in Logan- but they aren't very unique. Tandoori is fairly run of the mill Indian anywhere else. (It does beat a lot of Indian places too- but those places are bad). Herms is good. But just isn't unique.

I like the factory because of the atmosphere. I feel like it's typical college town pizza- but it's not something that exists in a lot of cities.

I'd agree, for Cache Valley they are solid, but that's about it. I feel the same about Cafe Sabor.

Back on topic - good luck to Hamid and I hope he enjoys his well earned retirement.

I can see your point on Herm's, although I still like it a lot. Can't agree with you on Tandoori. It's the best Indian food I've ever had anywhere, and I have been around to a lot of different Indian places. It's at the top of my list anywhere between Logan and South Salt Lake (might have missed some smaller locations, but I've been to most in northern Utah). It's better than any Indian food I've had in other states as well (which isn't a huge list, but worth noting). I would imagine it's better than Indian food from India as well, mostly because it hasn't made me sick yet. :noidea:

I might be in the minority, but I think Logan has a really good variety and quality of food options for a city it’s size. There could definitely be more and better options, but I’ve never run out of places to try and I have lots of places that I like to frequent when I’m in town.

I just ate there today and he told me that the same group that owns Morty's Cafe is buying it. He is staying on for a few months to make sure the transition is solid. Here's to hoping nothing changes.

That's for sure. My brother in law hadn't been in there for 5 or so years after he moved away. We went in one afternoon and he was greeted by name. The sandwiches were great too.

I agree with your sentiment when compared to metro areas of similar size. They used to have way good burritos at that place in Aggie Station. The burrito spot in Blue Square was decent too- but I vaguely remember that they got rid of both right before I graduated.

That’s what makes Logan’s Heroes so special though. Logan’s Heroes is just incredible . It isn’t “incredible for Cache Valley” or “incredible for a similar sized metro area”... it is incredible without any need for further qualification.

He makes a good sandwich, still not as good as it was in the locker 42 building with his old partner, when it was Ara’s. Best grinder I ever had.

Get your minds out of the gutter. The sandwich, not the gay dating app.

Everyone has their opinions. Some people love May Moe's and I will never go back.
That said, if you don't like Logan's Heroes there is something wrong with YOU.
I can absolutely see how it can be continued with a local ownership group.
I will pray that it does although you can never replace Hamid.

I wonder if he’s still going to sling sandwiches at Sultan’s? Guy worked 12+ hour days 6 days a week.

Re: MayMoe’s, ate their twice, did not like. Ate their catering twice, loved it each time. Weird.

Worked there when I was in high School, I make those sandwiches all the time at home but much bigger.

Can't agree with you on Tandoori. . . . It's at the top of my list anywhere between Logan and South Salt Lake (might have missed some smaller locations, but I've been to most in northern Utah).
Sounds like a "world's tallest midget" situation.

Chicago has the second largest population of Indians of any U.S. Metropolitan area (behind only NYC), so not surprisingly there are a number of absolutely terrific Indian restaurants. Tandoori is definitely the best Indian I have had in Utah and definitely the best Indian I have ever had in a gas station, but I would say its quality is right around the 60th percentile of Indian restaurants in Chicago. Pretty good, but not great. Unfortunately, Tandoori wasn't there when I lived in Cache Valley, so I have only been a few times. Neither was Herm's.

The options we usually took advantage of when I was at USU were:

* Mandarin Garden (almost always got the tiny spicy chicken referenced in another thread),
* Amy's Mongolian BBQ
* El Sol
* Logan's Heroes
* Formosa
* The Factory
* Late night at Denny's (or was it Bob's Big Boy?)
* Fredrico's (not good, but convenient)
* Angie's (only ever went for breakfast)
* LeBeau's ("WE WANT . . . *clap, clap* . . . FREE FRIES . . . *clap, clap*)
* There was a place up near campus that served these huge 4 or 5 pound burgers . . . Muther's; only went a handful of times
* The Copper Mill
* Gia's
* Bluebird
* Late night "all you can eat taco bar" at some restaurant in that building on Main just across from Logan's Heroes that I believe currently houses a Chuck-A-Rama

None of those places was particularly good, but they were the options back in the late 80s/early 90s.

I never had any money to eat out in Logan, but on the rare occasions that I did:

Formosa (seemed awesome at the time, probably overshadowed by Pacific NW Chinese food now)
Betos
Tampopo (Expensive and I usually just made my own Japanese food, but sometimes it was nice to eat someone else's.)

That was about it. I think I went someplace with peanut shells on the floor once, but barely remember it. This sad list is more a reflection of my poverty than Logan's restaurant scene.
