Help to get USU vs Hawaii on KJZZ
Help to get USU vs Hawaii on KJZZ
If you want to help get USU vs Hawaii game on KJZZ we need to start contacting the AD, John Hartwell. I just received this email from Kent Crawford, Group Manager of KJZZ:
Call the A. D. at Utah state and tell him we are willing to carry the game on KJZZ back home. KJZZ is a full power station covering the entire state of Utah. He can put pressure on Spectrum to get us the feed.
So if you want to help out here is Mr. Hartwell's email: john.hartwell@usu.edu and phone number is 435-797-2060
Let's make this happen. GO AGGIES!!!

Smurthwaite tweeting that the game will be free to stream on the stadium app. It would still be nice to have on KJAZZ, but just thought you all might want to know. It's pretty easy for most to stream the game with these apps.

Probably no one wants to pay Stadium or the conference about $5,000 to $6,000 for the rights to broadcast it, but I don’t know.

Hawaii owns the right and has sold them to Spectrum.Jjoey53 wrote:Do you know what the reason would be?aggies22 wrote:So what they are saying is, it's not going to happen.

Re: Help to get USU vs Hawaii on KJZZ
That’s true, but I know at least a few times in the past ATT SportsNet (or whatever it was called at the time) picked up Hawaii home games that were on Spectrum for distribution here.TheAKAggie wrote:Hawaii owns the right and has sold them to Spectrum.Jjoey53 wrote:Do you know what the reason would be?aggies22 wrote:So what they are saying is, it's not going to happen.

Yeah the game is available on an app, but it’s not exactly easy for most people to get that on their tv. I would think Spectrum would sublease to KJZZ considering it’s a Utah OTA station that has zero chance of cannibalizing their PPV numbers in Hawaii

Isn't Stadium the channel that facebook uses for its broadcasts? If so, that's not too bad.

Yes but it will only be on mobile apps not Facebook.

Re: Help to get USU vs Hawaii on KJZZ
As of right now this game will only be available on a phone or tablet. If you're lucky enough to have a phone capable of connecting to a TV you could watch a low resolution mirror on a TV. I've also heard something about phone mirroring via Apple AirPlay or whatever it's called.
Basically if you're a technological genius you might be able to stretch your 4 inch phone feed onto a large screen.
It will not be available on Roku, FireTV, AppleTV, SlingTV, PlayStationTV, any cable network in the continental US, nor on a PC or Laptop.
You can watch it on your phone.
Unless we can get Spectrum to release their tight grip on the rights for the game and allow a local broadcast for us.

Re: Help to get USU vs Hawaii on KJZZ
I'm not sure anything could be done about it anyway, it's certainly not within Hartwell's hands. Hawaii doesn't share in conference TV revenue because they have this pay-per-view TV structure for their home games. Their deal with Spectrum dies at almost the exact same time that the MWC TV deal dies with ESPN/CBS Sports. It will be interesting to see what UH chooses to do at that point.
I'm not sure why Spectrum decided not to offer their stream free to those on the mainland through the MWC app this year like they have done in year's past. Perhaps Spectrum saw a drop in PPV orders last year because too many islanders were spoofing their location and bypassing the system?
I'm not sure how many homes KJZZ is distributed to but if Spectrum charges $75/game to individual households in Hawaii, then I'm sure the asking price for a single game is rather steep for an entire network to pick up and redistribute.

Thankfully you don’t have to be a technical genius to use an iPhone and Apple TV!treesap32 wrote:As of right now this game will only be available on a phone or tablet.
