That sounds like a nice thing to do for a private school. Perhaps if rich guy wants to give his kid an advantage, rich guy should consider sending his kid to one of those?

Uninformed people keep stating this, but it is not factual. Utah in #49 in the nation relative to the ratio of administrators to students.

The approach on this proposition was very bad. Mixing a road tax with education funding was stupid. Fund roads separately from education. It's better to fund education using state imcome tax that is earmarked already for education. However, if you want to use a gas tax to do so specifically dedicate a percentage of the sales tax revenue to go to education. The same is already done for water infrastructure. But don't throw all of the $ into a pot to be divied up.

Better yet, improve funding for education either by eliminating the state income tax deduction for those with more than [choose a number] children OR by implementing a head tax.

The best way to raise money for education if it s insisted upon is to impose a lodging tax. Utah has a lot of tourists, let them pay for it.

I guess the only fair tax is the one someone else pays.

A lodging tax is more disconnected from funding the education from our children than a gas tax is. The state does not receive $ from the transient room tax. Only counties and municipalities do. Regardless, Salt Lake City received a total of $2.8 million from this tax during 2015, the last year I could find records. Even dedicating 100% of that amount to the educating of Salt Lake City's children would represent less than a 1% revenue increase in the Salt Lake School District's budget. It would be much less in the majority of other school districts. You'll need to think through this notion through a bit more.

Why not have those that use the system pay more to sustain it?
