True. The Ute D was pretty darn good this season, but not THAT good. Heck, they gave up 27 to BYU of all teams. 38 to ASU. Not a single TD by Washington?

We can’t afford Orlando or Aranda. Why are they mentioned?

Would someone take a pay cut to be head coach? I’d love either.

Aranda is most likely out of the question but Orlando might not be. Orlando would have to take a small cut in pay but he's also be taking a head coaching position which has the potential to launch him into even higher paying jobs in the future. It's already been mentioned on here that in business highly paid employees often take less to go start their own businesses because of the potential. This would be much the same.

Scalley is intriguing to me.

Aranda and Orlando are being mentioned because it’s pretty much standard for reporters to link anyone who formerly coached at a school to that school when jobs come open.

My preference is probably Gary if his much discussed but never specified issues are resolved. Hill I would be happy with. Would have to wait and see on anyone else.

Is Brown being discussed anywhere?

Jay Hill is not the answer. We have promoted at least two FCS head coaches that failed miserably. Let's learn from our mistakes

Your wrong on Jay Hill he knows the formula on how to build in Utah. I just don't know how good his contacts are out of the state.

Other than Jay Hill has actually been successful as an FCS head coach, how is Jay Hill's resume different than GA's before GA came to USU?

Difference is Jay Hill won at the FCS level. Gary had one season at SUU where he improved the team, but still went 4-7.

The intangibles, however, are probably what's most important. GA had the right personality for the job. I can't say I know enough about Jay Hill to know how he is as a person. I just know he's winning a lot. He's also hung well with P5 teams over the past few years, almost beating some of them.

Also hired P5 coordinators that failed, hired from within that failed, position coaches that have failed, so what our the options?

How would you all feel about Mike MacIntyre being considered? The dude did win 10 games at San Loser and also won PAC 12 coach of the year just a couple years ago. He wouldn’t be my first choice but wouldn’t rule it out.

Jay Hill played at Utah and coached there from 2001 to 2013. What he's done at Weber is nothing short of amazing and his players love him. They are also putting guys into the league. The only downside to him (I hear) is that he's very active LDS and would love the YBU job if it came open in a year, which it surely will.

I'm not sold that the one true team is a better job anymore. They have a rep for low pay, overschedule with high expectations, and of course the recruitment limitations.

Add no chance for a conference championship and less chance forna big bowl.

Yep. Jay Hill has taken Weber State farther than Dave Arslanian ever did at Weber State. Arslanian never won a playoff game or a conference title. Hill also has done so with Weber being in a terrible position when he took over. Mick Dennehy had success at Montana, but took over the job after they won the title and other than his first year never won a playoff game. Neither were nearly as impressive as what Hill has done, especially if Hill keeps winning.
