Preparing for a bowl without a coach

Post by smallz » December 4th, 2018, 4:47 pm

For those that have played college football or are close to the team, my question is how does the team prepare for a game without having a coaching staff? Does anyone know which coaches are still in Logan helping the team prepare for the game? If Frank Maile is the interm coach how does he outsource the preparation without a full staff? It is hard to imagine the team being prepared to play in the bowl game from my limited perspective.

Preparing for a game with only a few coaches at practice can be done. I remember reading an article how when the Utes were preparing for the Fiesta Bowl, and there was one practice, maybe a few that only had 2 coaches at practice, between Urban at his Florida press conference, Mike Sanford preparing for his new UNLV job, and others preparing to be assistants with them.

Have the coordinators already left? I thought they were preparing things. These guys have played 12 games and been a pretty disciplined bunch. The only changes are probably specific scheming to North Texas film may be left to guys without a lot of experience but at this point the Defensive leaders, O-line, and QB have seen about everything and they are locked into routine.

Obviously if Yost isn't calling things it may be noticable, but for one game where Love checks so much and we run the same basic RPO stuff I doubt we see a huge difference. Maile and the D won't change much.

I'm guessing we come out in a wishbone-option attack.

If I'm not mistaken, the Assistant Coaches have contracts that run out early next year, is that correct?

They resigned so their contracts are now void.

In theory, Maile could be left alone coaching these guys until the bowl game

I understand they are going to both game prep and coach our AGGIES for the bowl game with North Texas after which they will make a swift exit to Lubbock Texas.

I talked to Matt Austin yesterday and he is very close to Chuckie, he says Chuckie is 80% leaning toward leaving, to be an actual Coach and he’s from there....

I think we still have Maile, Collins and Unga. Plus most if not all of the GA group (for now).
