Who are the finalists?
Re: Who are the finalists?
Let’s be frank here. Everyone knows it was a wire-to-wire failure on part of everyone involved in the botched hiring process of Tim Duryea.bluegrouse wrote: ↑December 6th, 2018, 1:15 pmIn the case of Tim Duryea, he may well have been the best (or only) candidate who was able or willing to take the job. Nobody wants to follow a legend. (I don’t know this to be true but I wouldn’t be surprised.) Or Barnes was pressured into the choice and he didn’t stand his ground. Just saying that in this case, it may not have been a failure of the search firm......

I totally agreeineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 7:00 pmHearing that GA is a firm maybe.
If it’s him, I really hope most of the posts in these threads about him telling the AD to eff off and then withdrawing his name as a ploy are false. That would indicate he’s still the unstable guy that sent the texts at OSU. That’d be a lot of drama to put up with for a guy that flopped hard at his last coaching gig, IMO.

Re: Who are the finalists?
Whether or not it is true I have no clue, but if GA is coach are any people concerned? I only say that because it seems there has been a lot of back and forth about him getting the job as well as him pulling out of consideration. Obviously we don't know if those are true, but I do get concerned if he truly is on board and has the prior drive he did to get the job done.

My sources tell me it's been downgraded to a soft maybe. One source even said a 'strong perhaps'.ineptimusprime wrote:Hearing that GA is a firm maybe.

Honestly don’t know what to think. Could be good. Could be a disaster. I do think it’s a pretty big risk. I hope it pays off.

Re: Who are the finalists?
I would agree. I'm very split. Gary wasn't my first choice. I'm excited though. But I hate the thought of some internal power struggle with the donors and the AD.AndroidAggie wrote:do people have a bad taste in their mouth over all this? feels like a cloud hanging over the whole process to me.ratofallaggies wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 9:13 pmTrueBlueAggie123 wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 9:03 pmGary confirmed?ratofallaggies wrote:This has been an insane “process” only to circle back to the guy they were staring at the entire time....

Re: Who are the finalists?
Gary it is! Bet he hires some solid assistants. The process of looking at coaches may have been also looking at how other teams and coaches respect Anderson, making sure he isn't looked as a cancer and what not.

Re: Who are the finalists?
This is not a knock on Gary, but if the boosters forced the hire, yes, I have a very bad taste in my mouth. You have to let the man do his job. A coach who was hired by a coup-de-gras is going to feel like he can do anything and get away with it. Forcing the hire won't result in a good relationship between the HC and the AD and it will cause major problems. If that's how it wen't down, it's not good for USU.AndroidAggie wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 9:15 pmdo people have a bad taste in their mouth over all this? feels like a cloud hanging over the whole process to me.

I'm surprised anyone is this naive regarding the situation. Re: Who are the finalists?
I am excited to have GA come back. I would also caution people about making a decision about the hire based on their impression of the hiring process gleaned through a mishmash of random message board posts.

If the boosters really made this call then they better be donating a stadium upgrade or something amazing.

Level headed and reAsonable. I’ve been drawing all my conclusions from the message board.

Re: Who are the finalists?
Agreed, Hartwell makes the final decision, I'd hate to think that a few boosters & (JL)
Would not respect his professional opinion as an AD and force him to hire someone he was opposed to. That to me is pretty crazy.

Naive - funny you used a word meaning a lack of experience, wisdom, and judgement. Because that's exactly what our boosters are if they forced this hire.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 9:27 pmI'm surprised anyone is this naive regarding the situation.
