Gary's assistants?
Let's assume Gary does get the job. I'm very intrigued as to who his assistants will be. I think the offensive coordinator position will be a huge key to his success or not and I have no clue who he would hire. Anyone have any suspicions here? I hope Mike Sanford Sr. is brought on in some capacity. I wonder if Mike Sanford Jr. is a candidate. He was a very successful OC at Boise State and Notre Dame. PLEASE NO Mcgiven or Baldwin.
I have to think Frank Maile is the defensive coordinator. Gary can help assist where needed with the defense and Frank is awesome.
I have also to think Stacy Collins is retained as the inside LB's coach.
It'll be interesting to see if Chuckie stays on and becomes the QB coach or not.

Re: Gary's assistants?
Baldwin wasn't great. And he supposedly hated his coordinators at Oregon State. The thing Wells did really well (cause I think he was just average as a coach) was not settle and hire great coordinators. Gary will need to do the same.

Re: Gary's assistants?
Uh, okay. Did Gary hire him?
I think Kevin McGivens will come with Gary for sure.

I think Yost was a Hartwell hire.

Also, watch out for Justin Ena as a potential D coordinator. I know he's very highly regarded at Utah as the LB coach and is ripe for a DC position.

Re: Gary's assistants?
Utah fans are speculating that ena will follow Gary to Logan as DC. However not sure he is better than frank.

The more I think about this the more I think we're going to see Mike Sanford Jr. as the OC and Mike Sanford Sr. come along for some sort of consulting role.

Makes sense to me. If we could do that and get Justin Ena as DC..that would be incredible.

This is starting to sound really nice! If true then I'm glad that the boosters (JL) forced the hire.tetonaggie wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 9:44 pmThis would be amazing.Roy McAvoy wrote:The more I think about this the more I think we're going to see Mike Sanford Jr. as the OC and Mike Sanford Sr. come along for some sort of consulting role.

Re: Gary's assistants?
TJ Woods was the offensive line coach at Western Kentucky with Sanford. I think there's probably a good chance TJ Woods will be back to coach the O-line.

Wasn't Woods with GA at OSU? He might not be an option.

Woods started as a GA at USU with Gary. He was the O-line coach at Wisconsin and OSU for Gary.dyedblue wrote:Wasn't Woods with GA at OSU? He might not be an option.

Gary's assistants?
Well here is a link to a recent article showing who was on Gary’s staff at OSU and where they are now. I could see him pulling in TJ Woods (Oline) and Evan Simon (Strength), but not many others.
I had forgot that Zach Nyborg was on his staff when everything went down at OSU. Would be interesting to hear his thoughts and feelings. I hope Zach is retained.

Anyone know if Gary and Uani Unga have any kind of relationship? I’d like to keep him on staff too.
Please keep Chuckie too.

Re: Gary's assistants?
I guess I don't remember but why is everyone so down on McGivens? He was the OC when MW was still being super controlling of the offense and wouldn't let anyone do their jobs. I heard it straight from his brother that one of the main reasons McGivens left was that MW wouldn't stop micromanaging him.

Why would we want anyone from his staff at OSU??? (except for Nyborg who is already here)

I always thought Woods was a good OLine coach, he's the only one I'd want to consider. And if he was once of the guys who made Gary lose it, then I don't want him.

Does Utah State or Gary have any connections to Mike Sanford??? I like the idea of Jr. as OC but I have no idea how his name is being floated around.

Gary's assistants?
Sanford Sr was here with Gary for a quick one year stop. Also, Sanford and Gary we’re together at Utah before he came here.CanuckAggie wrote:Does Utah State or Gary have any connections to Mike Sanford??? I like the idea of Jr. as OC but I have no idea how his name is being floated around.

For sure. I mean who wouldn't want the OC from one of the worst programs in the country to be on your staff?

According to SBNation Rich Rodriguez was in the running. Makes me wonder what kind of assistants be could have pulled in with his vast experience.

I would have hated having him here, he's a douche! His teams play no defense.
