Roderick
Hearing rumors Aaron Roderick will be OC.
Anyone else hearing that?

Re: Roderick
Yeah it doesn’t excite me either
Hopefully it’s just chatter but the person who told me is involved pretty directly in the Utah football program so it’s possible he may have some knowledge of what Gary is thinking

Re: Roderick
Guy has been around. I think he's been hired and demoted a few times at Utah and took a couple of jobs only to say no thanks and go back to Utah. I'm not sure what to think about this one...Utah has been a mess offensively since Brian Johnson played there.

Re: Roderick
Utah did not think much of him and never gave him a chance. He goes to BYU and it’s been bad there too. Hoping he is looking at someone else. OC is going to be a vital hire.

Re: Roderick
I'll trust Gary, but I agree, not the most exciting hire. I'd prefer having Bouknight come back as OC.

From what I saw looking up Roderick, I am not super excited but not disappointed either. Seems like a decent hire can't complain.

I saw this topic on cougar board Friday night... That and this post are the only times I have heard that.
I have my doubts it will be him. Seems like he might go out of state for that on Washington State to be exact. IMHO

Re: Roderick
Is that his name? The BYU guy. I can never remember. I’ve just heard him called ARod.
I think I combine him in my head with Andy Ludwig

Yeah I’m hopeful it’s just a rumor my friend heard and not his plan. Would be a disappointing choice for sure.

He also flirted with BYU in a like manner a couple of years before he left Utah.

Re: Roderick
I am not excited and doubtful that this one is true. I know that Gary has at least two candidates for OC coming in over the next few days to check the place out. Nothing has been decided. Gary stated that he wants to keep the same offensive scheme with a few tweaks...I do not think that Roderick fits the scheme based on where he has been.

Re: Roderick
Wouldn't love it, but wouldn't hate it. A-Rod is a heck of a recruiter. This would leave me to believe that things are even worse than I could have imagined down in Provo.

Re: Roderick
I hope this is the case. Not sure Roderick has ever been part of a good offense and not sure he has an offensive philosophy of any kind either and if he does none of the offenses he’s been involved with look anything like oursIdAggie wrote: ↑December 12th, 2018, 12:25 amI am not excited and doubtful that this one is true. Re: Roderick
Listening to 1280, things in Provo are a complete dumpster fire and most of the coaches are sick of the BS. I agree with you on A-Rod, not my top choice, but he could do well in Logan.JFW_AGGIES wrote:Wouldn't love it, but wouldn't hate it. A-Rod is a heck of a recruiter. Re: Roderick
...okay, then can he implement a successful offense? It doesn't seem like he has much of a history in this area. Taking a coach from YBU might be something for us fans to enjoy while we shove it in YBU fans' face, but if he can't coach (see: Weber/Oline) then it's a detriment to us, even if he is a good recruiter.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 12th, 2018, 7:06 amI'd say their QB Wilson is pretty good, him and fesi are why he's there.

I would take Roderick on staff but would be really disappointed if he was our best OC candidate.

Re: Roderick
If true, I hate this hire.
Why should I "trust Gary" on this? Gary has a track record of making bad decisions when hiring his assistants (especially OCs). How many of his OC's have gone on to greater success? Mike Sanford? Probably the best Wells has had, but his son is better. Dave Baldwin? Sucks. Matt Wells? Not a great OC. Andy Ludwig? Nothing special. Kevin McGiven? Please. TJ Woods as "co-OC"? I love TJ as O-line coach, but OC? No. And co-OC? That's the same stupid decision Matt Wells made with Maile and Shaver... co-leadership is no leadership. Agian, why should I trust Gary on this?
Going from Yost to Roderick is like going from Picasso to a house painter. We need an OC with a track record of creative wizardry. We need WAY better than Roderick.
The only possibility that this works will be Love, Thompson, and all our boys on offense are so good they can make any garbage look good. But once they're gone, our offense will be truly offensive.

Why does that make it a natural fit? Gary's had like 4 FBS coaching jobs since then without him.Chatman wrote:Seems like a natural fit. He was Andersen’s offensive coordinator at southern Utah many years ago.

I would absolutely hate it and would revolt. Every offense this guy has been a part of has been a dumpster fire. Why does he get such high recognition? I don't get it.

Re: Roderick
IIRC, we had one of the top offenses in the nation under Baldwin. People just hated him because of the bubble screens that often times got blown up.

I’m already sick of hearing “trust Gary.” Did Gary walk across first dam when he returned to campus?

Agreed. We set school records with him at the helm. He made some questionable situational decisions, but before this season, that was our best offense ever.

Re: Roderick
I argue that was because of our vastly superior at talent at RB & QB compared to the defenses we were playing. Baldwin's offense was so predictable all the way around.
I can also never forgive him for one play. It was a home game against CSU we needed to win. We lost 35-34 in 2 OT. The two point conversion was the worst play call.
He ran a handoff to Turbin into the teeth of CSU's defense to the short side of the field and Turbin gave it everything but just had no shot of scoring because CSU knew it was coming. That summarizes Baldwin's play calling to me. It was evident to me prior to the play call. All Baldwin had to was fake that handoff to Turbin and send Chuckie rolling out to the right side of the field and he could've walked into the end zone. I've always been upset about that game.
Here's the footage:

Please for the love of Jebus please take Schramm away from us here at WSU. Guy is an (I can't express myself without swearing) hat and can't call a game to save his damn life. Schramm is the single reason WSU lost last weekend and not playing in the FCS National championship.
PLEASE TAKE HIM!!!
