Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
Starting to wonder about Frank, Collins announcement came in before him which is great but I thought we'd hear something by now. Wonder if he's leveraging other offers.

Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
I bet had he been offered the DC position, he would have signed by now. I’m guessing Maile is weighing his options. He’s stated that his goal is to become a HC some day and being a successful OC is likely the next logical step. Either that or getting an FCS head coaching gig.

And I'm guessing Ena will coach linebackers. Leaves corners/safeties coach.

Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
I think we will probably have a second dline coach or a grad assistant that will do a lot of the coaching of that group. I'm not sure how much position coaching a head coach can do.

Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
Ena is listed as inside backers coach in his release. We should get an outside guy as well. I assume Lapuaho will still help on the d-line.
Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
Looks like he still needs to announce coaches at the following positions- OLB, CB, Safety and not sure what they will do with that 10th spot. Maybe they will hire a 2nd DL coach so that GA is not completely responsible for that position--very few head coaches are.
Very interesting that the offensive staff includes two coaches who have not specifically coached defense before in Maile and Phillips.
What have been Frank's recruiting areas on the staff?

If that's the case, I'm thinking it will still be Al Lapuaho. Gary gave Frank his first coaching gig. He could do it again for Al.

Luke took a lot of heat on here but my brother in law is a high school football coach in Utah County and really liked him and said he was more charismatic than Matt and that Luke really commanded the room. FWIW. Yeah the hate for Luke Wells on here was a little baffling. Not sure how it started. It became the accepted truth of the board that was never questioned.2004AG wrote: ↑December 18th, 2018, 11:38 amLuke took a lot of heat on here but my brother in law is a high school football coach in Utah County and really liked him and said he was more charismatic than Matt and that Luke really commanded the room. Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
That's the modus operandi around here. One way or another a narrative is built based on rumor, conjecture, and a sprinkling of actual factual information which may or may not have anything to do with the subject. A subset of posters buy into the narrative wholesale and repeat it often enough that it becomes accepted as fact. And to be fair, that's probably not unique to USUFans.Madmartigan wrote: ↑December 18th, 2018, 11:53 amYeah the hate for Luke Wells on here was a little baffling. Not sure how it started. In the case of Luke I think the hate comes as a result of our down years when one of the many accusations thrown at Matt was nepotism.

Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
They both seem like relatively made up positions that can entail whatever set of responsibilities the head coach wants. Is there really an established hierarchy with these positions? Are they even that common with other teams?

Re: UPDATED 2018 Coaching Search List
Yes, at the university level, an "associate" is usually a tenured position which means "long-term" contract. An "assistant" is a year to year thing. I seem to remember we had an Associate Head Coach a few head coaches ago -- I'm sure it's a contractual security thing that may survive the firing or leaving of a head coach.BigBlueDart wrote: ↑December 18th, 2018, 3:16 pmThey both seem like relatively made up positions that can entail whatever set of responsibilities the head coach wants.
