Is this a good thing? Or did we just load up with another subpar punter?

1st Team All-American at Dixie State and was top punter in DII so I assume he’s decent...

Why the negativity? We lost our first team punter this year to a freak injury. It happens---and it tells us nothing bad about this new commit. Let's not be curmudgeonly and welcome the kid!

Re: New Punter commit
Seems very talented...here are a few performance links from camps and Hudl Dixie State . To my untrained eye he had some monster punts and the ball seems to really explode off his foot.

Re: New Punter commit
5 bads punts all year? In reality it’s our offenses fault for scoring so much. Punters didn’t get in field experience.TrueAggieman wrote:Did you watch the Boise game? Legit concern haha. Re: New Punter commit
There are multiple ways to ask that question, it just so happens he chose the one with a negative slant. Probably comes from years of cheering for a losing program. Buck up, TBF! I'm assuming he has to sit out a year? When he can take the field, will he have 3 to play 3?

Re: New Punter commit
Since punters are not considered student "athletes," they do not have to sit out. Pretty sure of that.
Actually, since he is transferring from DII, he may not have to sit out. Not sure. Might depend on Dixie State's conference rules.

Ouch!
I believe Jaron Bentrude holds the USU football record for yards per carry.

C'mon! How long have you known me?
Incidentally, I miss Bentrude. Dalton had a bigger leg, but Bentrude hardly EVER shanked one. The kid had a tremendous tool kit, could kick a conventional punt, rugby, and Australian rugby. Great accuracy, too. He could punt a football into a 55 gallon drum.

Re: New Punter commit
Is he related to Rusty Carlsen? He was a very good punter for us back in the day.

You have to sit out moving up. Don’t have to sit out moving down.

Re: New Punter commit
AK is correct. If moving up, you have to redshirt or lose a year of eligibility. You can transfer down without penalty.

Re: New Punter commit
To answer my own question, it looks like he’s currently a true freshman. He’s been officially released by Dixie. He’ll redshirt, then have 3 to play 3.

Re: New Punter commit
I think Hintze will be ok next season. He showed some good potential but was very inconsistent. He was’t expected to be the guy this season until Dalton went out right before the first game. Give him an off season to prepare and I think he’ll have a solid senior season and then this new Dixie kid can take over for the 3 yeas after that.

Re: New Punter commit
Sorry, I don’t mean to be negative. It is just hard to be that excited about a position that looked like Charlie Brown trying to kick a ball last year. I hope that he comes in a performs well because we were a couple of good punts from potentially pinning Boise deep and making it a more competitive game.ChicAggie wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2018, 9:40 amThere are multiple ways to ask that question, it just so happens he chose the one with a negative slant. Re: New Punter commit
Sorry, but three bad games is too many. Punting was a problem at the end of the year and killed is against Boise. In fact is say it was momentum changer and thus a leading cause of our defeat. 15 yard puntS are inexcusable at the college level.USUBlue wrote:I actually thought Hintze had a good year except for three games. He was really good in the bowl game. Made me wonder if he had some kind of injury at the end of the season, maybe it was just a mental thing?USUBlue wrote:I actually thought Hintze had a good year except for three games. A few of the punts that went bad were by Lee.

Re: New Punter commit
Just dropped off my FCS transfer punter. He’s a student now and will be involved in spring ball. Appears the young man from the D2 school committed elsewhere this morning. Inching my way back to Texas.
