Ajani Carter
Wanted Ajani's offer to have its own post.

This would be a huge win for Gary early on. Galena North Shore is one of the premier football programs in Texas, and Ajani is a guy that could come in and compete immediately. He will be playing for a Texas 6A D1 state title on Saturday vs. Duncanville. I would not mind a pipeline from North Shore to Logan!

Re: Ajani Carter
He is a verbal commit to UTEP, as far as I can tell, but did not sign on Wednesday and doesn't appear to have shut down his recruitment. Also, if all we have to beat is UTEP we should be fine.

If 247 is to be believed, he committed to UTEP after having considered Indiana. At this point the Hoosiers have likely moved on.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 21st, 2018, 1:49 pmIndiana is harder though.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑December 21st, 2018, 1:34 pmHe is a verbal commit to UTEP, as far as I can tell, but did not sign on Wednesday and doesn't appear to have shut down his recruitment. I read an article on the teams playing in the Texas state championships and his hs has a ton of talent. Multiple top 100 guys.

Re: Ajani Carter
What do we like about his tape? Or is it just his height and his school.
Simply being on the same team as a great Hs team doesn’t mean he’d be amazing.
Although a taller receiver would be good, height can be overrated. There is a lot of value in having quicker receivers and nimble receivers over a bunch of trees.
How would a receiving corps of Antonio Brown, Julian Edelman, Golden Tate,
D. Jax, OBJ and prime Steve Smith sound? All less than 6 feet.
As long as a receiver can move, catch and. block- I’m happy. Blocking receivers were so key for us last year and in 2012.
FTR, I’m not scoffing at the recruit. I’m just interested in more than height and school.
Tape tells little. I didn’t really see break away speed on his JR year tape. And due to selective nature I don’t know how good his hands are or how well he blocks on a routine basis.
Any insight is appreciated.

Re: Ajani Carter
He is rated as a solid three star prospect by 247. He’s got good speed and height, and starts for a team that produces as much college talent as any in the nation (IMG and others of that ilk not included).
I’m gonna go ahead and say we should take a flyer on him.

Re: Ajani Carter
Honestly, unless the new staff steps up BIG time and manages to swing some guys that are currently off our radar or they find a few diamonds in the rough, we've $hit the bed for the 3rd straight year when it comes to recruiting WRs. Not all grad transfers turn out like Jalen Greene and you still have to convince a grad transfer to come here in the first place. I do know that they are planning on taking 2 JuCo guys but they will both likely be May graduates.

Re: Ajani Carter
Any insight on why this is the case? One would think that having readily available PT and Jordan Love should have made this an easy to recruit to position.aggies22 wrote: ↑December 23rd, 2018, 9:04 amHonestly, unless the new staff steps up BIG time and manages to swing some guys that are currently off our radar or they find a few diamonds in the rough, we've $hit the bed for the 3rd straight year when it comes to recruiting WRs. Disappointing to hear that all signs point to a whiff here. Looks like we’re stuck with mostly leftover JuCo guys, as most of the top guys have already signed. Any idea who we are after in terms of JuCo guys?

Re: Ajani Carter
If we lose Ajani to SoMiss or UTEP, that to me speaks more of a comfort factor in the location more than any sort of on-field issues. Hopefully this kid has his eyes set on competing immediately for a winner. If so, I think we are the clear option.

Let’s wait until all his offers come in. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a few P5 offers.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑December 23rd, 2018, 9:50 amIf we lose Ajani to SoMiss or UTEP, that to me speaks more of a comfort factor in the location more than any sort of on-field issues. Seems to be retweeting a lot of the So. Miss stuff. I think your location analysis might be right on. My comment was more though that I think he’ll snag at least one P5 offer, though it wouldn’t shock me at all if he signed with UTEP or So. Miss over us just given the location.
If we are looking at uncommitted HS WR, there are a couple bigger, unsigned 3-star guys up in WA and OR. Already got a pipeline set up that way and is close by.

The Pacific Northwest might not be a bad place to start. I do know with 100% certainty that they are in the market for 2 JuCo guys.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 23rd, 2018, 9:56 amSeems to be retweeting a lot of the So. Miss stuff. Re: Ajani Carter
The old staff felt like WRs were a dime a dozen and made them a bottom tier recruiting priority. One would think a WR would jump at the chance to play with Jordan Love and Co. but first WRs have to actually be recruited which they were not. It may not happen this recruiting cycle but look for the Florida pipeline to reopen for the 2020 class. I do know that interest has been shown in this WR.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 23rd, 2018, 9:44 amAny insight on why this is the case? According to 247, 9 of the top 26 JC wide receivers are still available including number 1. Any chance we get any of these?

3 of the 9 are over 6’ tall. It’d start with those. Nothing against sub 6 footers but we have a bunch of them already.GeorgiaAggie wrote:According to 247, 9 of the top 26 JC wide receivers are still available including number 1. Any chance we get any of these?

Re: Ajani Carter
Certainly agree but we have some guys like that (one really good one in particular of course)
Need some bigger guys that can win jump balls, throw fades to or get inside position on a slant etc

Yes exactly! Not saying small, shifty, fast guys are bad. We need them too. It’s just that we have a bunch of them already and could use someone to compliment those dudes, like Tarver and Greene did.Intermeddler wrote:Certainly agree but we have some guys like that (one really good one in particular of course)

Just watched this guys’s Sr year Hudl. If you haven’t, I’d recommend you check it out. Kid is a player. Plays (and blocks) a lot like Jalen Greene.
I hope he loves his visit here. He would be a HUGE get

Re: Ajani Carter
The word around here is that we are trying to sign up to 3 receivers in February, 2 juco and 1 hs, with at least 2 of them having some size. Here’s my wish list and would make me feel a lot better about the next few years.
Ajani Carter - HS and size
Brandon Pierce - Juco playmaker/speedster
Then either a Juco or transfer with some height such as Sean Carter or Reggie Colson.

Re: Ajani Carter
Reggie, Reggie! I can tell you for certain that the recruiting plan for the second half of the signing period is to bring in 2 JuCo guys and 1 high school kid. We might see a JuCo May graduate brought in as a push forward in June. Reggie Colson graduates in May.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 6th, 2019, 2:52 pmThe word around here is that we are trying to sign up to 3 receivers in February, 2 juco and 1 hs, with at least 2 of them having some size.
