Bowl game cancelled
Boise State got their bowl game cancelled and declared a no-contest cause of the weather.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
I'd be pretty disappointed if I traveled for a game, and it got cancelled when I was there. Wonder what/if they will offer any type of refund.

Bowl game cancelled
BC was kicking their butt in the trenches. Might give Boise a chance to stay in the top 25 now. That is a win for the MW.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
The bowl can refund the fans their game tickets, but they can't to anything about the other expenses.Aggiefan160 wrote: ↑December 26th, 2018, 1:37 pmI'd be pretty disappointed if I traveled for a game, and it got cancelled when I was there. Wonder what/if they will offer any type of refund.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
What a freaking mess. Players spent Christmas in hotels and practicing instead of with their families. Fans spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to travel to the game and rather than just delay the game until the weather breaks they cancel it. I'd be royally pissed off if I paid to travel to a bowl game only to have it be cancelled. I can't imagine how it feels for the players either. Especially the seniors that just lost the last game of their career.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
I wonder if a bowl game can afford to stay in business if they cancel a game. I would think sponsors would be wanting money back as well, as well as fans. I wouldn't be surprised to see this being a fatal blow to the bowl game.

What a disaster. Why didn't they delay? Had all day for the weather to clear? Crazy....

Re: Bowl game cancelled
In a way it kind of serves them right for sticking their nose up at their own home bowl game.

That's just plain crazy. I doubt this bowl game exists beyond today.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑December 26th, 2018, 2:44 pmDoesn't look like fans will even get a refund for their tickets:

Re: Bowl game cancelled
Of course if the delay lasted long enough they lose the T.V. coverage, also what if the weather was bad all day long? Just maybe we do not know all the facts with this.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
It appears the game would still be in a long delay if they hadn't cancelled. Unfortunate outcome, but not sure what else they could've done (aside from refunding game tickets - not doing so is a total jerk move)

I bet Boise drops out of the top 25 If any of the voters base their votes on what they watched in the first quarter.

It's an act of God. Nobody can control the weather and it is an outdoor sporting event.
Also, it does seem like karma.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
Seems like the First Responders bowl should’ve played at least until first responders were called in. Weak sauce.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
Our daughters Father in law is a big time BsU junkie/fan. He and some of his friends made the drive down from Boise to go to the game. I’d imagine they are probably not to happy at this time.Aggiefan160 wrote:I'd be pretty disappointed if I traveled for a game, and it got cancelled when I was there. Re: Bowl game cancelled
I'm guessing the bowl has insurance against "acts of god" and when the weather turned south, someone did the math and discovered more money could be made if they cancelled and collected on the policy. So as soon as the legal requirements of the "acts of god" clause in the insurance contract was met, ta-da! Cancelled.

Most insurance policies will specifically exclude acts of God.brownjeans wrote: ↑December 26th, 2018, 4:22 pmI'm guessing the bowl has insurance against "acts of god" and when the weather turned south, someone did the math and discovered more money could be made if they cancelled and collected on the policy. Re: Bowl game cancelled
It’s still storming in Dallas as per the internet. But, couldn’t they have played tomorrow? Or moved kickoff to an earlier time?
I don’t think a weather cancellation should be on the heads of the bowl. But at the same time, I’m not sure the bowl excercised reasonable diligence in rescheduling. The weather isn’t in their control, but their reaction is- and they reacted poorly. Glad they are at least trying to make it right. But if I spend $1200 on hotel, airfare, (or gas for my house if I’m
A Boise fan) I’d be upset. Players missing Christmas stinks too.
Im somewhat surprised this hasn’t happened more often.

Re: Bowl game cancelled
My sentiment is similar - unfortunate for both teams, especially seniors. I thought this would be be best matchup of the mtn west bowl games. Not sure how anyone can really determine a game's outcome based on 7 minutes of playtime. BC looked good, but based on what I've seen from BSU, they seem to get down and then "storm" back...

Re: Bowl game cancelled
Flood insurance, earthquake insurance, etc. are all designed to protect against "acts of god". The purpose of getting insurance is risk protection. The company hosting a bowl game would want insurance against risk of catastrophic loss of revenue due to risks that cannot be managed. This would include against acts of god that could cause the event to be cancelled. Think of all the money that goes into the planning and promotion. Securing the venue, etc. I'm sure many of the contracts include guarantees that the bowl company has to pay. Insurance against acts of god would cover those costs. If the bowl company doesn't have insurance, I imagine we'll see a bankruptcy filing soon.stwinward wrote: ↑December 26th, 2018, 5:12 pmMost insurance policies will specifically exclude acts of God.brownjeans wrote: ↑December 26th, 2018, 4:22 pmI'm guessing the bowl has insurance against "acts of god" and when the weather turned south, someone did the math and discovered more money could be made if they cancelled and collected on the policy.
