Fake kicks
Fake kicks
Whenever the team I'm rooting for does one, it doesn't work. Whenever the other team does it, it works. Oregon doing a fake FG in the bowl game failed. Penn State faking a punt in their bowl game - failed. Cowboys faking a punt earlier in the year against the Eagles was successful. Redskins successful fake punt against the Eagles. I'm pretty sure the Rams did it to the Eagles too. any time USU fakes a kick, it fails. Except that long 70 yard run against NM, but that wasn't really a fake- our punter just saw there was no one there to tackle him , so he took off. Even onside kicks... Auburn (I won't elaborate). We were successful against Nevada in the early GA years but we were called offside on that one, even though we weren't- so we had to re kick it.
I actually would like to see USU attempt fake kicks/ onside kicks when it is not expected. USU's problem is their fake kicks are attempted in predictable situations. I would like to see a random onside kick in the middle of the game. from Wikipedia: Between 2001 and 2010, surprise onside kicks were successful 60% of the time, while expected onside kicks were successful less than 20% of the time.

Re: Fake kicks
I have always been one to advocate onside kicking when you get to kick off from the 50 cause of a penalty, as there is a much lower risk if not successful there as opposed to normally. And if you don't want to risk giving the ball at even the 40, do a pooch kick so if that fails, they only get it at the 25 like they would if you just kick it deep.

Re: Fake kicks
Also, who can forget when we once had TWO successful fake punts against Hawaii in the same game, and when we did the fake field goal against Auburn

There was also another fake FG vs BYU in 2015 that was successful.

Re: Fake kicks
Also, who can forget about the botched pooch kick at BYU where we were bailed out by them being offsides. And the funny thing is, they were offsides on the second one which we played well so we would have been bailed out again if we had botched that one.
