Coaching Staff

Post by AGGIEinIOWA » January 2nd, 2019, 1:55 pm

AD website currently has the following as far as coaching staff for 2019. I believe we get to fill 11 coaching positions besides the Strength Coach and Director of Player Personnel and other AD positions and grad/administrative assistants. That would lead me to believe Gary only has one spot left to fill of the 11. The only position that isn't accounted for is Defensive Line that I could see, unless Gary is going to take that on. Also, there is still a question on what role Nyborg will fill. He is shown as Dir of Player Personnel on the website still but we've seen announcements that it is now Keegan Andersen. Am I missing anything?

Gary Andersen – HC
Frank Maile – Asst HC/TE’s
Mike Sanford – OC/QB’s
Justin Ena – DC/ILB’s
TJ Woods – OL
Stacy Collins – Special Teams/RB’s
Jason Phillips – Passing Game/WR’s
Bojay Filimoeatu – OLB’s
Mike Caputo – Safeties
Jalil Brown – CB’s
? - DL

Jordan Hicks – Strength & Conditioning
Keegan Andersen – Director of Player Personnel
Waqa Damuni - AD Football Operations
Grad Assistants and Administrative Assistants – Not sure how they will shake out

It may have been stated elsewhere as well, but in the press release naming Maile as Asst HC/TE coach, it was noted that GA would, indeed, be coaching the DLine.

Maybe this changes with the 10th assistant hire, but you're right...assuming GA will take the DL as noted above, it looks like all our bases are covered? Almost seems like some teams have separate coaches for inside and outside WRs? Have we done that before?

Wasn't someone suggesting another coach would be named after Utah's bowl game? I took that to mean that maybe another UofU assistant would be coming. Maybe still is, or maybe not? Any other inside info about who the 10th assistant might be and what position group he might cover?

My colleague Isaac is hearing that the coaching staff is now complete and there will not be a 10th assistant hired.

I'm assuming Lapuaho will have a role with coaching the D Line

And I’ll assume Keegan will be considered and paid as our 10th assistant.

Anderson spent a lot of time with the D-line the first time around, Or maybe it was the O-line. I'm getting old.

Will Mike Sanford Sr. (MS II not technically a Jr. since his middle name is different) be joining the Staff? Him and GA go WAAAAAAY back to the Urban Mayer days, and considering MS-S worked for MS-II recently, it might make sense for him to follow his boy. :noidea:
