And a huge drive it is...even from Pecos to SLC. Texas is such an enormous and wealthy state. The storm broke later this morning in SLC and is now perhaps as brutal up and down I 15 as was reported earlier to me from Logan. Good luck and Godspeed with your travels Ranger26.

Omg....Jordan just pulled into Logan ( in his new car BTW, YBA) and said that the 15 was terrible! Safe travels to anyone, especially our team driving back today!

Just dropped off my FCS transfer punter. He’s a student now and will be involved in spring ball. Appears the young man from the D2 school committed elsewhere this morning. Inching my way back to Texas.
This thread seems to have been taken in a completely new direction, but this post seems to have been ignored and nearly lost in the ether. So it sounds like we no longer have the punter from Dixie State, but a different punter? Can you share any additional details Ranger? Welcome to the board, by the way.

Ahem. Can we interrupt this love-fest to get some information about the punter situation?

If you don't know what happened, it's because you didn't read the entire tweet. What happened was this: God stepped in.

Bias alert - Jake is my Son; will attempt objectivity. He was a RS FR at Abilene Christian U (new FCS program). He received interest/offers from a number of FBS programs late this fall. For various reasons, to include he knows and previously trained with some of the USU specialists, this program appeared a good fit. He's played soccer since he was 4, kicked FGs and PATs in HS as well, is a two step vice three step punter, can rugby and Australian punt, and trains year round with a national K/P org since his Freshmen year in HS. He recognizes spending a year under Aaron Dalton's expert tutelage would be highly beneficial; we're hoping that all works out. He's an Army Brat so we like to think he's resilient and independent. Primarily, Jake is a student of the discipline and above all a good team mate. He also bought his first ever pair of snow boots this past Sunday. @Walrath23 is his twitter which further links to a youtube page for those that haven't found it yet. The Walraths feel fortunate to be part of your fine school and FB program. Now back to lurker mode.

What probably actually happened was this:

Carlson got a call from the recruiter at NMSU saying something like, "This is Coach Brown from the New Mexico State Aggies, and we would love to have you join our team."

All Carlson heard was "This is Coach Brown from the [Garbled] State Aggies, and we would love to have you join our team"

Carlson thought: "OMG!! Utah State wants me to play for them‽‽‽ This is a dream come true!!"

So he made an announcement he was coming to Utah State. This was the first USU heard about the new recruit, and we already had a better punter in Jake Walrath in the pipeline (see Ranger's contributions to this thread), so we said, "Umm, no thanks. We'll pass."

NMSU saw the announcement that Carlson was coming to USU, contacted him and said "WTF?"

A disappointed Carlson realized his mistake, and has now announced he is going to NMSU.

That's probably how this went down. Or some close variation. ;)
