Riley was a solid prep athlete at Box Elder High in Brigham City. I don't know where he is now headed, but it was a shame he chose to play in Provo. Seems there is a bit of turmoil and uncertainty in Provo these days.

Hope he finds his forever home somewhere far away. Like Las Cruces or UC Davis.

I would've thought Weber State was a likely spot, but given that they have their star running back, Josh Davis, for 3 more years, I don't think he'd get much PT there either.

My brother is a friend of Riley. He wants to come to USU and is planning on touring the campus next week. He didn’t have a lot of glowing praise for how Sitake runs their program. It’s spparently a pretty divided locker room. He’d be a grad transfer.

Hipster, when did he just graduate in December or does he graduate in May?

If he graduates in May, we can sign him then and he will be a 2020 push forward. Once we get passed the current signing period we only have 13 or 14 graduating scholarship seniors and we'll have plenty of scholarships.

I guess I have to wonder what role Burt would play on our team? ST's? I wouldn't deem him any better than Tre Miller - so where would he find PT at RB?

That might make it tough for us to take him prior to June.

He might be willing to wait. I’m guessing he’ll try and play at Utah State in front of his family, the Mantuayans, and friends. Weber State would be an option too.

I would be all for USU giving Riley Burt a look. I'm not sure why he was so underutilized at BYU. He was dinged up one year which played a factor, and maybe there is more to the story that we don't know about. Gary and the staff should at least look into it. BYU fans always clamored about his ability whenever he was given a shot. He's explosive, strong, and has a nice cut back. He had a great game in BYU's bowl game last month with over 110 yards on 13 carries. Here's a link to some highlights from his first 2 years at the Y (prior to this last season). Not always against the best competition but certainly looks to have some ability and runs angry and with a purpose.

It's no secret that while Riley Burt is an awesome athlete, there's apparently something wrong with his vision that he struggles with. Something literally wrong with it.

A freakish athlete, a good kid by all accounts, struggles with memorizing the playbook. I've heard he'd have been much more utilized would he have been able to manage that. If he could overcome that, or if we could have particular packages with him, I think he's certainly worth a look.

Don’t we lose 3 rb’s (DT, Eltoro, and Hervey) that we need to replace? How many did we sign last month?

RBs for 2019:
Bright, Tre Miller, Morian Walker, Sione Fehoko. I am not sure if Fehoko has a scholarship.

Same reason it was great to have Quinn Ficklin, Dallin Leavitt, and the other great players who transferred from BYU; turn the sow's ear into a silk purse. I'd love to see us transform him into a starting caliber RB, then use him to pound their sorry backsides into the ground at the Mav next year!

I don’t think we signed an rb during the early period but supposedly Warren is coming, which would be great. If we get Warren maybe we should sign a high schooler for a second signee if we don’t have enough scholarships left to sign 3. If we don’t get Warren then I like the idea of Burt.

I've got a bit of bias on this since I've known him and family since he was a little kid and most of my family is still in Mantua. However, the guy is undeniably freakishly athletic. I remember watching him return kicks against the Aggies as a Freshman and he looked a man among boys.

If he wants to come and is willing to play special teams I think he'd be worth a shot. I think Yost would have probably found situational stuff for him. Riley would have thrived in the AFA triple option where vision isn't as critical and you are just hitting a hole fast. I can see him being more effective out of the read game too than he would have been out of the BYU offense. Who knows maybe he was just lost with the coaching change. I know he only went to BYU in the first place because Mendenhall was personally recruiting him for a couple of years when no one else had offered because of his frustratingly limited high school touches.

Fehoko does not have a scholarship; and I am excited to see what Miller and Walker can do, but they have had injury problems. I think we're going to sign the Snow JC kid, but Burt may be good insurance also.

I think Taylor is off the table (not sure if it was his call or Gary's), but the high school guys we're looking at now seem more impressive to me. I'd love to get Jamaal Bell.
