We will be playing at Iowa in 2023

Awesome! Wonder if it’s part of a 2 for 1 or home and home? Iowa doesn’t seem like a school we’d do a “money game” with.

I’m almost certain it would be a one and done money game. Iowa does not play at G5 schools period. In the 17 years I’ve lived in Iowa I don’t remember them ever venturing out of the cozy confines of Kinnick Stadium for a non-con except to play Iowa State or another P5.

No offense to Iowa, but I don't imagine Iowa being able to fork out the same kind of money as an SEC or upper-tier Big 10 school for a money game. If we do have to play these body-bag games, top dollar would be nice.

Maybe I'm wrong about Iowa's money, or maybe we're not able to pull the same kind of money in money games as we historically have been able to (since we're now perceived as a threat) and are now trying for lower-paying, but more winnable money games. I'd be okay with that too.

I love this. I’ve wanted a lower tier money game that is easier to win than the blue bloods that pay the most. Winning a game against Iowa in 2023 is much more likely than Wisconsin, USC, Bama in 2022 or LSU next season. I personally would love to see USU find a way to get away from money games, but I completely understand the budget isn’t there. However, with a few games like this you can do a 2-1 or a 1-1 with a “neutral” game with a good check on the unbalanced game.

For a money game I think this is a good option. Iowa has a really good program, but not on par with like USC, Alabma or LSU. This is a good game that we can be competitive in.

Huge fan of this game if it's either a money game or a 1 and 1. This is the type of out of conference opponent that we can beat.

I love this game. I certainly wouldn’t call the Hawkeyes a lower tier P5, but I agree that they aren’t one of the top blue bloods either. They’ve finished the season in the top 25 4 times in the last 10 and two of those were top ten. Maybe Kirk Ferentz will retire by then. At any rate, I expect us to compete better than the last time we played at Iowa in 2002. That was brutal.

Maybe, but the trend seems opposite of that. Every P5 team we've played has ended up underperforming. MSU this year was no exception. They were supposed to be a legit top 15 team and ended 7-6 or something. Wisconsin the year we played them wasn't great. USC wasn't great either time we played them.

I like this game though. I think we need to move toward mid- to lower-tier P5 teams and start to establish ourselves.

Iowa is most certainly NOT a lower tier P5, much to the dismay of some of us here that are expecting a greater chance of a W over a P5 on the road. I would put Iowa in the same tier as Michigan State and Northwestern, right below OSU, UM, PSU and UW. I noticed that some fans on the Iowa MB were wondering if this was a H-H deal, but it doesn’t look that way. Iowa hasn’t traveled west in about a decade and it’s tough considering Big Ten teams only get three OOC games and one of theirs is always ISU.

I think I’ll be making the trip out for this one, as I’ve always wanted to see a game at Kinnick. Do they still have the pink locker rooms for the visiting teams?

You may be right, but did you see Wisconsin play this year? Probably will be back on track in 2022, but they were pretty pitiful this season. A weak BYU team took them to the woodshed -- in Madison.

Yeah, I don't even see this as a mid-tier P5 game. Iowa is not Alabama or Ohio State, but they're also not Kansas or even Wake Forest. I see this being more like our Washington game a few years back.

I'm hoping it'll be a good game. Our competitiveness will depend a lot more on how our team changes over the next four years than it will depend on Iowa. It'll be a one-and-done, but they must have been willing to meet our price or we wouldn't have signed on the dotted line.

I'll go again. I went to the last USU-Iowa game. Hopefully this time around, I will be driving up from Oskaloosa instead of Brigham City (hopefully plans to build a house on my farm in the next two to three years will be fulfilled).

These are the type of power five games I believe will be good for Utah State. This is a winnable, but hard match up. I am actually from Iowa and have always wanted to watch my Aggies take on the Hawkeyes! If we win, my Hawkeye friends can't give me crap, but if we lose...I will hear it everyday! I think if we can get a game against another lower tier P5 that year, that would be awesome.

The games are scheduled years in advance. We count on these P5 teams being great and they count on us being $hit. You have a crystal ball?? Because I can promise these ADs don’t have one.

Just wondering, what are the odds that GA will be our coach for that game?

I don’t care if they’re good or bad. Either is fine with me. If they are top 10 and we lose, at least we get paid and good experience. If they suck that year, we get paid and beat a P5 team on the road. All I was saying is that historically we seem to catch really good historical teams on a down year.

I think better than 50/50. He left 12 mil in Oregon, he seems to have Utah roots drawing him back. I don't get the sense it is about money, prestige, or power at this point. Color me optimistic.
