Re: Recruiting wish list
Count me as someone who is very disappointed we stopped recruiting Brandon Pierce. I was really high on him. I can't believe that we're going to sign 0 JC WR's as it currently looks right now.
Why not at least still have Pierce in for a visit in case we strike out elsewhere? I'm flummoxed . I know it's likely we'll be bringing in a grad transfer WR, now it's looking like maybe we'll actually be bringing in two? That's the only solution I can come with up.

It’s possible that the staff has decided that the current receivers on the roster are adequate and scholarships are needed to fill needs elsewhere.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 6:28 amCount me as someone who is very disappointed we stopped recruiting Brandon Pierce. Re: Recruiting wish list
NOT possible. Coming into this recruiting cycle this position was our primary position of need. I feel like the old staff did NOT do a good job of identifying and recruiting WR talent early in the process. And that left the new staff behind the 8-ball with most of the quality WRs out there. We only have 8, yes EIGHT, scholarship WRs on the projected roster for 2019. That number includes Cam Lampkin. We are at most 4 scholarship WRs short for the 2019 season. I believe they are currently banking on AJ Carter and Siaosi Mariner signing with us.Chatman wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 6:50 amIt’s possible that the staff has decided that the current receivers on the roster are adequate and scholarships are needed to fill needs elsewhere.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 6:28 amCount me as someone who is very disappointed we stopped recruiting Brandon Pierce. Re: Recruiting wish list
Exactly. It’s not a sure thing that Carter (who seems to have really enjoyed his USM visit) or Mariner (who is rumored to have interest from Boise St), let alone both, are going to sign with us. You can’t put all your eggs in that basket. Why not have him in for a visit in case something falls through?Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 6:28 amCount me as someone who is very disappointed we stopped recruiting Brandon Pierce. In any event, if I am totally honest, Pierce was the most impressive of the the three to me after watching his tape. Looked like he would be an impact player here.
Even if they didn’t like Pierce, I just can’t believe the staff would be stupid enough to put all its eggs in the Carter/Mariner basket when we couldn’t lock up a verbal from either on their visits, so I’m suspecting there is something else going on that we don’t know about.
(EDIT: nevermind. Looks like Mariner is in)

Re: Recruiting wish list
I’d feel pretty good about the wr position if we can indeed land Carter and Mariner. They are both 6’2” and have good skills. Mariner has started 22 games for the Utes and is well experienced. We’d only have him for one year but from what I’ve seen I think he can make a Greene-like impact, if not greater. He should get plenty of touches. Carter has the tools to contribute early and have a nice long career here. I do think we need one more wr added to the class and Pierce would have been a great addition but maybe the staff has someone else up their sleeve. A stud juco receiver that would come in as a junior would be nice as we are really young at that position. I also think we’ll see a few of the unknowns on our current roster step up, such as Tim Patrick. Scarver, Nathan, and Thompkins are all capable and hopefully Hextall develops into a threat.

Re: Recruiting wish list
DE Logan Maxwell is no longer coming. He probably should have signed in December and now the new staff has moved on. That opens up one spot but if Mariner and Repp are coming then by my numbers we should have 4 spots left. That does not include sign-and-sends or push forwards.

Re: Recruiting wish list
Also on the subject of Maxwell, are we basically trading like-for-like with the Neves signing? They are rated almost the exact same, and the jump from WDE to OLB isn't a big one. Sounds like Neves will be more of a Galeai player for us eventually (i.e. tasked with getting to the QB, less emphasis on blocking running lanes).

Re: Recruiting wish list
Nope. Unless some of these other guys that are leaving other schools are willing to wait until summer, I don't believe we have the numbers to add many more guys to the defense. If my numbers are correct, we only have 2 scholarships under the 85 scholarship umbrella left to give to defensive players.CW51 wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 12:39 pmhave you heard anything about TEVITAaggies22 wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 9:41 amI believe the new staff just decided they didn't have the numbers and moved on.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 28th, 2019, 9:22 amWhat is the reason for him not signing? Yep. There is no way a kid turns down USC. Especially when that's where Puka Nacua is still supposedly headed. Dammit. A kid would be smart to turn down a school like USC or UCLA, Jordan's best friend 3* SS barely saw the field there, he was buried behind all of the other 4*s that think USC/UCLA is the place for them.....now he's transferring out

Any school that's handing out offers a week before signing day, is doing so because they're scrambling. And if we lose Hill and Jackson, we'll be doing the same.

Do we know that it was USU that lost interest in him or was it him that lost interest in USU. Two very different situations. If it came from him then it would be a waste of resources.

Wow. Looks like Hill, Legas, Carter, Akili Arnold, etc. are all going to go down to the wire. I appreciate that Jackson is deciding midweek to give us or CSU time to explore other options. Gonna be interesting to see where all the chips fall in the next few days/week.
