Re: Recruiting wish list
He was here last weekend and his primary host with the coaching staff was Coach Andersen so I doubt it we backed off. I'm pretty sure we wanted him to blueshirt "push forward" and I'm guessing he didn't want to wait to sign.

We were on the trail for Hilborn very early this past year, and I was surprised that Wells and Co. couldn't lock him down between our offer and the end of the season.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 10:30 amHe was here last weekend and his primary host with the coaching staff was Coach Andersen so I doubt it we backed off. Interesting considering his Twitter profile pic has him and his parents standing on MOF. I'm sort of repulsed to see him standing there with coach Weber in his UH announcement pic.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 10:30 amHe was here last weekend and his primary host with the coaching staff was Coach Andersen so I doubt it we backed off. No one ever questioned Weber's ability to recruit. He just sucks at coaching.

I think it's no secret that Wells and the boys didn't do a real standup job at seriously recruiting the state of Utah.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 11:07 amWe were on the trail for Hilborn very early this past year, and I was surprised that Wells and Co. couldn't lock him down between our offer and the end of the season.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 10:30 amHe was here last weekend and his primary host with the coaching staff was Coach Andersen so I doubt it we backed off. That new db offer is for next year, not this year. I'd be shocked if they signed anymore dbs this year (unless somebody decommits).

Re: Recruiting wish list
I am not seeing where the "we are recruiting so many DBs" argument comes from. We are losing 4 DBs to graduation (Fortenberry, Rocquemore, Ferguson, and Wade) and picking up 5 in recruiting (Harris, Arnold, Tatum, Gilliam, and Lefeged). If you assume that we may be losing one DB either to a transfer, attrition, or some other normal occurence, we are holding steady.
Tight end is the real headscratcher for me right now. We have Mosese Manu, Cole Motes, and maybe Jaymason Willingham coming in as TEs from high school. We also have Caleb Repp coming in as a grad transfer, and return Mortenson, Terrell, and Boman from this year's team. That's 3 for sure TE newcomers, one potential TE newcomer, and three returners. Six or seven seems like maybe one or two too many.
Additionally, we have a glut of linebackers. I am not as worried because I am not super confident in the depth behind the starters, so some new blood is welcome. I think we have brought in extremely athletic OLBs to learn from Tipa and Woodward. Thompson, Willingham, and Neves are exciting prospects to me.

Re: Recruiting wish list
Of course - he really would be a good get, he played SS at UCLA but in HS he was an awesome receiver. He still has a redshirt avail and a yr of eligibility. I talked to him the other day when you told me you didn't see him on the transfer portal but sd he's been on there for a while now.. Memphis offered to bring him on and so did BYU, but he is waiting to see what we're going to do.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 2:36 pmKeep me updated please?taniataylor wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 2:17 pmNot yet, Jordan put in a word with the staff though, we'll see what happensaggies22 wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 2:10 pmHas there been any conversation between us and Jordan's friend that left UCLA?taniataylor wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 2:05 pmI'm tellin you guys, I think some of these DBs are going to convert to WR

Re: Recruiting wish list
Cole Motes is a mission kid, so scratch him off next years list. With the addition of Repp, I think Willingham will stay at ILB. That leaves Repp (Sr.), Terrell (Jr.), Manu (Jr.), Boman (Jr.) and Mortenson (RsFr.). I'm not really sure where Manu fits in, unless he's going to play the DJ Tialavea role. Repp was probably added because he's a know commodity, at least to the coaches that saw him at Utah. I am baffled as to why we struggle so badly with recruiting WRs and TEs.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 2:37 pmI am not seeing where the "we are recruiting so many DBs" argument comes from. Re: Recruiting wish list
I'm pretty sure you're right which also baffles me when you consider where these two programs are right now and also who has put more RB's into the NFL recently. CSU has had ZERO RB's drafted since 2010 and only has Bibbs (undrafted) left in the league. Meanwhile, USU has had 4 RB's drafted over the same period and will have 5 after this year's draft.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 3:01 pmI'm pretty confident that he'll be committing to CSU.GeorgiaAggie wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 2:51 pmDoes anyone know when Tyreese Jackson is committing today?

Re: Recruiting wish list
I think he’ll pick CSU for three reasons:
(1) much less competition for immediate playing time at CSU (biggest reason);
(2) he announced he was committing immediately after his CSU visit;
(3) we NEVER get the guys who plan their commitment announcement (okay, this one is superstitious and mostly tongue-in-cheek).
I’m interested in hearing who the backup plan is if we miss on Jackson. Gotta think Riley Burt might be an option (perhaps best option available) at this point.

Re: Recruiting wish list
There's actually not much superstition to that one. I think that hold true for the most part. If I remember right, the last guy we got that held a hat ceremony was Jeff Manning.......ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 3:41 pmI think he’ll pick CSU for three reasons:

Or maybe he wants to win and likes our coaches better. And our coach has a better chance of not being fired in the next couple of years. Who knows what he wants. He didn’t schedule announcement until after he visited both. He was gonna visit Toledo this weekend but they likely canceled because they got a rb commit recently.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 3:41 pmI think he’ll pick CSU for three reasons:

And that’s the counterargument. I don’t even think it’s debatable that our program is in a much better spot than CSU’s right now.
