Queta. 18 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 blk
Queta is my most favorite Aggie basketball player in my lifetime.

Re: Queta
JC was amazing to be sure and a true legend. But I've never seen an Aggie absolutely dominate all facets of the game as Queta did tonight. And he's only a true freshman. 18 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 blocks in a critical road win.

Re: Queta
Taylor from FSU makes a living at the FT line. Many of his shots have no expectations of going in. Just trying to draw a foul.
Tonight he had many of his drives cut off as he looked up and saw Queta.
It’s not a measurable stat but I think Queta kept him off the line.

Queta is the most talented player since Estes I'd guess. Merrill is not far behind, if Koby stayed it would've been a crazy amount of talent for one team

Also fitting that in this game Queta has surpassed the single season total blocks record previously held by Shawn Daniels.

I know this will be controversial but I don't think we'd be as good with McEwen this year. His leaving allowed Merrill's leadership to take over the team and I don't think he would've bought into the ball movement philosophy this team has adopted.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 10:51 pmQueta is the most talented player since Estes I'd guess. One of the first possessions for Fresno State their player drove towards Queta and stopped just short of him and them tried to shoot over him. The effect he has on the game is unreal.
Also loved his performance while a fan held a sign that said "Queta sucks".
It's a great day to be an Aggie!

Re: Queta
The only reason it should be controversial is whether or not we think Smith could have controlled Koby a bit more and made him a team player. After seeing the offense duryea ran last year compared to smith, I’d say there’s a good shot Smith would have maximized that talent to work for this team.aggiesdotcom wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 11:19 pmThat is not controversial to anyone who understands team basketball.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 11:14 pmI know this will be controversial but I don't think we'd be as good with McEwen this year. I don't disagree, just saying the talent level would have been crazy on one team. We might have lost more games but we'd be more dangerous with him at PGhipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 11:14 pmI know this will be controversial but I don't think we'd be as good with McEwen this year. Ehhh, we looked like a much better team with JK3 at times. He was a little selfish offensively but overall he brought a lot to the table. Porter has stepped up big time though and we are peaking at the right timehipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 11:32 pmExcept we already saw that selfish players don't work in his system with the JK3 situation.Ag4life wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 11:26 pmThe only reason it should be controversial is whether or not we think Smith could have controlled Koby a bit more and made him a team player. Re: Queta. 18 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 blk
One other very big point about Queta tonight. After he picked up his third foul early in the second half, Smith left him in the game when conventional wisdom would say you sit him for awhile. He didn’t pick up another one.
One more point: he was 8/9 from the field
And one more thing: one of those was a three...
What a game for the big guy!

Re: Queta. 18 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 blk
I've never understood the coaching philosophy of sitting your top players when they're in foul trouble. In order to save players for the final minutes, it seems counterproductive to sit them for extended periods while the game is still being decided.bluegrouse wrote: ↑February 5th, 2019, 11:53 pmOne other very big point about Queta tonight. Re: Queta. 18 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 blk
I'm with you on this. If your best player gets 3 fouls in the first half and you sit him for 10 minutes - only playing him for about 8 minutes in the final 10. The game ends, he finishes with 4 fouls, and you lose a close game because you didn't play him every possible minute... That's no bueno.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 6th, 2019, 12:01 amI've never understood the coaching philosophy of sitting your top players when they're in foul trouble. Re: Queta. 18 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 blk
I think it has more to do with the psyche of the players and also the fact that you want your best players on the floor in crunch time. Obviously you can't go down a bunch in the interim but possessions at the end of close games are played a bit differently than possessions with 15 mins left in the game. You want to tread water to save your best players for crunch time when there's more stress and importance on each possession

That little curl from the baseline off the screen to the angle opposite our bench will be forever seared in my brain. He remains the most dynamic and exciting player I’ve ever watched at Utah State. Nemi will likely be in the running before we’re through tho. Love everything about him.

NBA talent is there, but Queta has to know that making NBA is no guarantee.
I hope that he stays here for 4 years because Utah State can be a powerhouse team with Queta and help him in getting a degree.

What’s your point? Great players still lose games once in awhile.
Wayne Estes scored 52 points against Boston College which, 54 years later, remains the most points in a game by a Utah State player. We lost the game in overtime. Does that somehow diminish Wayne Estes?

There was really no particular point I was trying to make. I remember the NMS games that year, especially with Jaycee going off on them in Las Cruces. In spite of his great game, we lost. And no, that doesn’t diminish from him.. He’s still, IMO, the best player who put on a USU uniform in the last 50 years.bluegrouse wrote: ↑February 6th, 2019, 2:32 amWhat’s your point? I saw a comment on sam being better than carroll. Initially i agreed but all these highlights reminded me just how amazing Jaycee was.
Anybody with a more knowledgeable mind than mine know why Jaycee never got a shot in the league? I would think he could have been a kyle korver type easily.

It boils down to size. Jaycee is listed at 6'2", while korver is 6'7". The NBA values measurables very highly.Usu0505 wrote: ↑February 6th, 2019, 8:06 amI saw a comment on sam being better than carroll. Initially i agreed but all these highlights reminded me just how amazing Jaycee was.

Re: Queta. 18 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 blk
This wasn't meant for a GOAT debate, that title clearly belongs to Larry Bird. Who my favorite player is and who the better player is are not necessarily one and the same, and comparing eras and positions in the debate of GOAT is always a ridiculous debate. The thing I love about Queta is that I look forward to what he's going to do next on both ends of the floor on every single possession. Last night was the perfect example. He grabs nearly every rebound without contest, dominates in the post and has developed an impressive hook shot, he blocked a ton of shots and altered even more, he forced Fresno to start hurling 3's, he opens up 3's on offense with his commanding presence in the paint, he has fun with the fans and the refs, and hit a 3 pointer to top it all off. I love watching his confidence grow each game. I fear we'll only have him for 1 more season but if he were to play all 4 there's little doubt in my mind he'd be the greatest Aggie legend since Wayne Estes.
