Re: Recruiting rankings
I doubt any of care but the ranking for byu-provo will take a dip when there 2nd highest rated recruit Chuck Alatini and 3* TE Trey Anderson sign some where else.

Re: Recruiting rankings
Rivals isn't very reliable. USU isn't even on their site. Also they don't tend to update the commits and signings. 247, in my eyes, is the only reliable source.
PS Thanks 22 for your great work on 247.

Re: Recruiting rankings
For us 247 is the only one that even cares. Rivals doesn't even have a pulse when it comes to USU.
22-I've heard Alatini is a grade casualty. What's the story on Anderson? I know they wanted him on the oline.

Rivals is trash

Re: Recruiting rankings
These recruiting rankings aren't even worth following.
Only way to "rate" how good of a recruit a player is, is by looking at what schools offered him. And even that isn't always reliable. Some kids simply develop late or aren't noticed by the bigger schools.

Re: Recruiting rankings
Being a ranked recruit and having potential coming out of high school or Junior college can't overcome poor coaching and an inability to properly develop talent.
You guys thought Coach Andersen was the $hit when he was here turning 2* dudes into All- conference players. Watch what he does with a signing class full of 3* guys and starts getting a few 4* kids.

He struggled at Oregon State. But was great here.

He also ditched many of the coaches that most people on this board couldn't stand. I don't recall ever hearing about anyone not liking how TJ Woods handles business.Tetonkatest wrote: ↑February 7th, 2019, 11:00 amI'm wait and see on that.aggies22 wrote: ↑February 7th, 2019, 10:56 amBeing a ranked recruit and having potential coming out of high school or Junior college can't overcome poor coaching and an inability to properly develop talent.

Re: Recruiting rankings
I don't think the rankings are worthless. I think a lot of time is put in to evaluate all of the players. However, I think there is bias by the evaluators based on what schools are recruiting a kids. There are also just so many high school athletes, some are bound to slip through the cracks.

Re: Recruiting rankings
When a grade is bumped up due to where you sign, I'm not going to put much stock in that ranking system.

Re: Recruiting rankings
But the grade you're looking at when it comes to 247sports is the composite score. That score is a combination of the actual 247 evaluated ranking, ESPN and Rivals. I know for a fact that 247 has a panel of recruit evaluators. It's ESPN and Rivals that hand out the token rating. If you look at the actual 247 evaluated ranking rarely does that change. The only time it MIGHT change is during a predetermined recruit re-evaluation which happens 3 or 4 times a year.

Re: Recruiting rankings
All a recruiting ranking is, is an indicator based on information that is realistically available.
It’s not and should not be used as anything more definitive. What is definitive is how someone performs on the field once they put on the pads on Saturdays and their development over 3-5 years.
We love rankings because it is a way to measure against other teams without playing the game, but there is never accountability unlike finance where ratings are measured against performance- an ESPN ranking doesn’t seem to be scrutinized when it is wrong. All that really matters is can Gary evaluate talent better than the ESPN, Rivals and 247 evaluators. I think so, so it hold rather little weight to me.

Re: Recruiting rankings
Even then, I just don't know how to really interpret these rankings in terms of what I can really expect from the team going forward. Maybe I just don't pay enough attention to recruiting and know what to value from watching their highlight reels.aggies22 wrote: ↑February 7th, 2019, 11:13 amHaha!UtahStizzle wrote: ↑February 7th, 2019, 11:06 amUnless we're ahead.BigBlueDart wrote:I have long ago concluded that these recruiting rankings are worthless.
