The game that changed everything...

Post by bluegrouse » February 9th, 2019, 3:59 am

Couldn’t sleep and stumbled upon this tonight. How in the world did we win this game??? Biggest string of miracles I’ve ever witnessed in an Aggie athletic event. Still can’t believe it.

I was a freshman in high school and was listening to this on the couch in my parent's living room.. I remember it vividly. My dad threw in the towel and went to bed since he thought the beatdown would continue, and it was pretty late. I was stubborn and stayed awake, and that was probably the best decision of my life. :scotsman:

I will never forget listening the pregame show of that game where I could tell by Al Lewis's tone of voice that he was sick of people whining to him about us always losing it in the fourth quarter, between people calling in and doing in on the air, people that would see him in the community and complain to him, and people who he would overhear that weren't talking to him, the way he said "I KNOW, we have always been good up until the fourth quarter. I KNOW, we have always lost it in the fourth quarter" and felt better knowing that Al was as sick of it as I was. When we were down at halftime, I was almost relieved that after that, I would hear whining about something other than us always losing it in the fourth quarter. It was all the better we came back and won.

Who can forget when we had three fourth down stops and two fake punts

Gary mentioned it in the Signing Day event in SLC on Wednesday so it was fresh in my mind when I saw the clip pop up in my YouTube feed. I had remembered the comeback vividly but had sort of forgotten how many unbelievable play happened in the second half. Truly incredible.

Watched it all again tonight. Man what a game. You could see the regular bad luck that we had been bitten by still happen, but we had the players to overcome. Like the fumble that Michael Smith returned for a first down (later negated by a penalty, but still).

a shrine should be built in the North Endzone complex to this game.

Even Michael Smith running the fumble for a first down wasn't ALL for nothing. It forced them to take the penalty instead of just declining it and taking the loss of yards.

Agreed. Never gets old. If you are ever having a bad day just watch that highlight video. I probably have watched the whole game 4 times.

My cousin is a Boise St fan. He keeps the Oklahoma game on his phone and watches it every time he is on an airplane.

I have watched this game a few times. I could easily watch it every year for a while I think.

I’ll never forget this game and am So glad I kept saying “just one more series, and then I’ll go to bed”. It was a really long game too because the Chuckie injury and carting off took like a half hour. I remember the LB on Hawaii laughing and taunting about injuring Chuckie too, so that was an extra bonus to beating them.

I only stayed up waiting for an update on Chuckie...and now you know, the rest of the story.

I remember staying up late and watching the entire game. I recall GA had said previously, from time to time, that the Aggies "had to learn how to win" and in my opinion, this is where we learned how to win. What a glorious, wonderful game!

That was a heck of a second half. Loved being in "Chat" with several of you watching that game. As with most great memories, it had gotten somewhat exaggerated for me with the passage of time. In my memory, I had conflated the 28-0 second quarter with the entire first half -- meaning I was misremembering that we were down 28-0 rather than 28-7 at halftime. Coming back from 28-7 and 31-14 isn't QUITE as impressive, but still an amazing second half. The two TD passes by Kennedy were basically 50-50 balls, but credit to Jacobs and particularly Morrison for hauling in those passes.

The pursed lips at the end of the game by the Hawaii head coach is so memorable!

I've got to say that I really enjoy the commentators for Hawaii. Their accents and takes on the game are priceless.

Are they the same guys as this year? Sounded the same, but that could just be me being ignorant.

that catch by Morrison, un-freakin-believable.

That is sacred ground. Everyone should trek to that stadium as a reminder of the change of direction for our program.

I will admit I went to bed at halftime. I only seen the highlights and never really watched the game. But I finally watched the second half and wowie. So many things went our way that way. GA was stoned faced till the clock had zeros. I loved having AK on the squad. Even when he transferred, I tried to watch as many Arkansas State games as I could.

Hmmm. I guess I'm dead? As much as I love the Ags, I can't say any win or come back has ever made me aroused. Maybe I need a little blue pill.

I was a little kid in Jr. High at the time of this game. I remember my parents went to the game and my older brother and I were able to convince our grandparents to let us stay up and watch the game. They put us to bed at halftime but calls from our parents woke us up and we were able to watch the end of it. Probably one of my favorite USU memories of all time!

Luckily, I was in Beaver Creek during the polar vortex. Flight home Wednesday night during the worst of it cancelled, and I was there through Friday. Weather in Colorado was great. :)

Proud to say I just made the pilgrimage to Halawa this past November and was a very worthwhile experience. Watching our boys stomp on UH to the tune of 56-17, and rush for over 400 yds in the process, only added to our enjoyment.
