Irvine was a good win. Maybe our best win of the year. They are a very good team and we destroyed them on their homecourt.

We all know Lunardi wants to make USU an 8 seed. C'mon, Joe, just pull the trigger!

But we also know that the NCAA wants the mid-majors out as quickly as possible. I would rather get a 10 or 11 seed and win and have to likely play a 2 or 3 seed. That or win the conference tournament and get a 7 which I think we would deserve.

I would love to be the 8 or 9 in SLC with a potential shot at Gonzaga.

I wouldn't. I would rather have a shot at making a run. Gonzaga is damn good and much better than they were last year when we gave them all they could handle.

Any seed 7-12 excluding 8-9would be great. The 8-9 is suicide.

I think if we can be matched up with a guard heavy/oriented team rather than a team that focuses on the post, we will fare better in the tourney. Gonzaga’s Hachimura would give us all sorts of problems. A team like Houston or Nevada though and we will have a good chance of winning. The projected matchups with Washington or Baylor would be good for us and I think we win those games.

For the first time ever, I don't really fear whoever we play in the first round. With four, possibly five days to prepare for an opponent, Coach Smith and the boys will tear our first opponent apart.

That is my belief as well. This team is the real deal. I don’t know that we blow anyone out but I do believe we have a great chance at winning our first game no matter the seed. I really wouldn’t want Gonzaga in the 2nd game tho. They eat teams alive.

I sure wish I could be 100% sure we are a lock, but the scenario of a first round loss and someone other than Nevada winning the tournament would be troubling. The Mountain West non-conference RPI is 15th and overall is 18th. With that, and the committee's bias against mid-majors getting 3 bids seems unlikely.

We really ought to win game 1 next week, but I have a hard time seeing the semifinal game against Fresno/SDSU game as anything but a coin flip.

I think we are in unless someone other than us or Nevada wins the conference tournament.

I believe I said this in another thread, Fresno State worries me because they have shooters and shooters can get hot. We've solved the San Diego State mystery. Pack it in and force them to chuck it up. All it took was for Coach Smith and the assistant coaches to see the Aztecs in person once and they figured it out from there.

I'm pissed. One of the latest ESPN articles (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket ... ies-bubble) is back to claiming we are a "Work to do" and they blame it on needing overtime to beat CSU.

On the other hand, Iowa loses 4 of their last 5 games, including a 20 point shellacking by Wisconsin and they are still a "Should be in". Ole Miss is another team that is marked as "Should be in" and has lost 5 of their last 6 games. Both teams are barely above .500 in league play.

"Experts" will say anything to keep a good team down. Especially since the conference darling Nevada embarrassed themselves after our game.

Being projected as a 9 seed, I think there are 12 other teams that are worrying more about this now. I think big wins by teams around us could force us down to a 10 or 11 but I think we are safely in at this point. Too many teams have played themselves out to keep USU out at this point.

On the other hand, it seems certain that USU (30) will move ahead of Marquette (29) and there’s a small chance they could move ahead of Villanova (25) in the NET ratings. Being ahead of all Big East and PAC-12 teams would be a good place to be in.

I’m watching UCF (26) play at Temple. If UCF and/or Kansas State (28) lose, the Aggies could move up several spots by tomorrow.

Murray State, the two seed just beat Belmont, the one seed to clinch the auto bid for the OVC. This makes it interesting as Belmont has been in the field the entire season. Hopefully this doesn’t mean that they get an auto bid as it would be one less spot for a mid major. We control our destimy, but if it were to come down to us or Belmont....I would pick us, but afraid the committee would not.

Belmont loses to Murray St. the first bid thief may have just happened. Belmont Is definitely bubble so they may not make it.

I watched the game, and Ja Morant is a heck of a player, but neither team impressed me much. Morant is the only reliable scorer and scored around 35 of the 75 or so of their points. Belmont was missing one of their decent players, but I believe we could beat Belmont or Murray state.

A GREAT day for the Aggies. When the day started, the bracket matrix had USU as the third ten seed. So I have been tracking the 8-12 seeds in the matrix. And here's how it has played out.

8-seeds UCF and Oklahoma lost. Washington is yet to play. Iowa plays tomorrow at Nebraska.

9-seeds Baylor and Syracuse lost. VCU is done for the regular season. Mississippi won. (But I really like former Aggie assistant Kermit Davis, so I was OK with that.)

10-seeds Texas and St. John's lost. Minnesota is done. USU is done.

11-seed Florida lost. Ohio State plays at Wisconsin tomorrow.

The next 5 teams won. 11-seeds NC State and Seton Hall and 12-seeds ASU, Clemson and TCU.

The next 12-seeds - Alabama and Belmont - lost.

So more than half of the bracket "neighbors" of USU that had games today lost.

It is atypical to move up after a loss. But you can move up during a bye if enough teams in the neighborhood lose.

Looking forward to tomorrow's bracket matrix.

A first round exit and we are in real danger. A first round exit and anyone else than Nevada winning the tournament and we don’t get a bid. A second round exit and anyone other than Nevada winning the tournament and we are in danger.

I don’t think that the MWC gets three teams under any circumstance.

Agree. We are looking at a 9/10 seed at this point, we aren’t last 4 in anymore. As long as we don’t lose to Wyo or something we don’t have anything to worry about. 3 MWC teams is possible.

I hope we don’t come out cold like BYU did after our long rest. I hope coach has them ready this week. Losing to NM or Wyo would be very bad.
