We aren’t last in. Stop worrying.
We just need to not lose to a sub .500 team in the MWC tourney.

Buffalo
VCU
NMSU
Washington/Arizona State
Houston/Cincinnati/UCF
These teams need to win their tourneys for me to feel 100% comfortable
Re: Potential Bid Stealer
Saint Mary’s is holding on to a slim lead in the second half of the WCC Championship against Gonzaga. Would it be better for us for Saint Mary’s or Gonzaga to win?
We beat Saint Mary’s, so them winning would be good for our resume.
At the same time, Saint Mary’s is a bubble team. Them winning potentially takes a bid away from another bubble team.
I’m leaning towards it’s still better for Saint Mary’s to win, but was wondering what you guys thought.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
NMSU would not get in ahead of us. They have no chance of getting in the tournament without winning the Wac. Their best wins are against bad MW teams that we already beat.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
Gonzaga looks abysmal tonight. I want Gonzaga to win. SMC is a bid stealer.

If Saint Mary’s wins and we fail to reach the championship game, be prepared to sweat on Sunday.

What the hell is Gonzaga doing? SMC is not a great team. We manhandled them on a neutral court.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
They figure that there is a better chance to make it to the Final 4, if they are a 2 seed instead of a 1 seed.

If Usu loses on Thursday there’s a scenario where st mary’s Just took usu’s spot by winning.

This is hell. There’s no justice in a team we clobbered stealing our spot because the Zags suck.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 8:49 pmIf Usu loses on Thursday there’s a scenario where st mary’s Just took usu’s spot by winning.

Can we stop the “we’re a lock” talk. Literally no one has us as a lock. I haven’t even seen anyone have us in the “should be in” category.

If we lose on a Thursday we’d fall into that last four in pretty quick I think.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
Yup. I could see it happening even with a loss to Fresno. I would guess most projections that have us as an 8-10 seed assume we are in the MW final against Nevada.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 8:57 pmIf we lose on a Thursday we’d fall into that last four in pretty quick I think.
This wait sucks. Can it just be Thursday?

I don't disagree, just trying to be positive. Let's just win and remove all stress.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 8:57 pmIf we lose on a Thursday we’d fall into that last four in pretty quick I think.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
If a bid had to be stolen, it’s probably better it’s an SMC team we throttled than someone beating Buffalo.

Potential Bid Stealer
Jerry Palm has a list of teams considered “on the bubble.” We are not on that list. To me that’s says “should be in.”ineptimusprime wrote:Can we stop the “we’re a lock” talk. Literally no one has us as a lock. I haven’t even seen anyone have us in the “should be in” category.
Basically the 10-12 seeds are bubble teams. We are projected as a 9. If we lose Thursday we could fall back into the “bubble” status bc that would be a bad loss. Right now though, we are “should be in.”
So I feel St Mary’s just took someone else’s spot. Also if we fall back to bubble status I prefer to be against a team we beat.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
I know it’s fashionable to say that a loss on Thursday will cause a tumble. But the problem with that mindset is that it implies that EVERY team below USU and elimination wins. And it can’t happen.
Tomorrow for example, NC State plays Clemson. The winner moves up in all likelihood but the loser won’t vault up in the seedings.
I admit that there is no history for bracket matrix to show their accuracy. But if 141 of 142 bracketologists say that the Aggies are in on average as the best 10 seed, I have no reason to believe that the one other list is the only one that is right.

Finally a “should be in” on ESPN with the most recent update. Says we are susceptible to bid stealers and an early exit in the conference tourney. Seems about right.

Re: Potential Bid Stealer
I'm not a fan of calling automatic bid recipients "bid stealers." These teams won the games required per the rules of their conference to gain entry into the NCAA tournament. They aren't stealing anything from at-large teams who failed to complete the requirements maintained by their respective conferences. If anything, only other non-automatic qualifiers can steal bids from "at-large" teams.
Want to go to the dance? JFW. If not, just hope you're better than the other teams who also can't win when it matters most.

maybe calling them bubble-poppers would be better.jimbo wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 10:58 pmI'm not a fan of calling automatic bid recipients "bid stealers." Re: Potential Bid Stealer
Maybe more accurate, but Jimbo I think you need to relax no one is actually suggesting the “bid stealers” don’t deserve to be there, they are just removing what was assumed to be an available at large spot.QuackAttackAggie wrote:maybe calling them bubble-poppers would be better.jimbo wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 10:58 pmI'm not a fan of calling automatic bid recipients "bid stealers."
