Washington
Having got my masters from UW, after our win I went to the PAC-12 championship game. This is what I saw. That game was atrocious and hard to watch. UW stood around all game on offense and then took bad three point shots, hitting 20% and they weren't close misses. When they went inside #15 lost the ball nearly every time for a turnover. The other times they missed layup atter layup.
When guards penetrated they were intimidated and looked to avoid contact, resulting in no free throws until 4 minutes left in the game. Defensively they play an extended zone, which led to a lot of holes in the 10-15 range. Getting Sam or Brito to hit a few of those will open up everything else. To get good looks from 3 we will need or screen and ball motion or get them in transition. Oregon got more open looks than i expected and they don't move half as much as we do. If Queta stays out of foul trouble I see UW scoring in the 40s or 50s as we will contest the 3 and I don't see them shooting it well. Game will be slow so we will only get to 60s but our ball motion offense should result in some layups and open threes, if we hit 40% from 3 we will walk away with this. We hit 25% and well be in trouble.
This analysis is all dependant upon what I saw Saturday night and the previous Saturday also against Oregon. Maybe they come out different and shoot better but i haven't seen it.

Re: Washington
As explained in another thread, they are Syracuse west. They play a 2-3 zone the entire game, it is a matchup. They are long and athletic and have the defensive player of the year. We will have a hard time getting the ball to Queta. Brock needs to shoot well.

But in a zone, how do they maximize that?QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑March 17th, 2019, 8:47 pmThey have one guard who plays crazy and amazing defensehipsterdoofus21 wrote:Do they press?

[He scares me with his length and ability to steal/block. If he is guarding Sam I could see Sam struggling to get shots off even in a zone.]

Re: Washington
Ok, UW grad and Seattle resident here. I hate it when USU and UW play each other.
UW reminds me of Reno this year - most talent and best team in the conference, was coasting to the championship, but inexplicably ran out of gas at the end of the year. Thybulle is a monster on D. Queta - Dickerson is going to be a crazy matchup. Queta probably has the raw talent to win, but Dickerson has age and guile. I would give the Aggies the edge right now, just because UW has really stumbled lately. Up until about three weeks ago, they were playing really well, but have kind of turned into the "Really talented but can't seem to pull it together" team, ala SDSU (or a lot of the MWC to be honest). Oddly, that's the kind of team that used to give USU fits, but seems to play right into their hands now.
Anyway, I predict a close Aggie win, followed by a beat down to UNC.

Re: Washington
I think the concern with Sammy getting shots against Thybulle is valid, and Sam's also amazingly well-rounded and intelligent, and will absolutely find ways to positively impact the game, even if he's not shooting well. Should be a fun matchup.

Seriously though I don't see this team being beat down by anyone, too focused and locked in right now with Smith keeping their eyes on the prize
