I'm only 3 hours up the road, so I want to come. I've never purchased NCAA tourney tickets though. Any advice on how I could pick up a ticket for myself?

Any travel gurus out there who have found flights in the $300 range? I'm looking to fly to a neighboring city, then drive in if I can save on two tickets.

I live 100 miles from the game, if we want to group some Aggie fans together for the game, pm me. There are ~6 airports close by within a couple of hours of the game. We should have a meetup or something in Columbus before the game.

Louisville had flights earlier today for $315. Now I’m seeing in the 400s though plus a 3 hour drive. I would like to hear if someone sees something too. $500s seems like a lot....

Looks like you’re around $600 and up into any airport in Ohio from SLC..

Try Akron/Canton airport, it is cheaper at least from Denver. Other airports within a few hours are Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, Charleston WV. Farther out may be Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis.

For those of you in Utah that are closer to Vegas than SLC, you can fly from Vegas to Columbus round trip for $316 on Spirit, leaving on Thursday and returning on Monday. Or, you can fly from Vegas to Cincinnati for $254 round trip on Allegiant, flying out on Thursday and return on Monday. Just 100 miles, give or take, between Cincy and Columbus in a rental and you’re set.

If anyone is coming into Louisville Friday morning and would like a ride to Columbus let me know.

I'll be leaving in the early afternoon to head up and can take a max of 4 people.

Good on you, my friend. All the negativity talk lately so it’s nice to be reminded that at the end of the day we’re all Aggie fans and just want the best for our fan base and our team.

Just know for next year that Southwest is the one airline that lets you cancel for free, so you can book a flight to one of the sites back east in advance while it's relatively cheaper, then cancel if we don't go there.

If you're looking to save money, there are round-trip flights from SLC to CHI on United on SkipLagged for $188 flying in Wednesday and flying back out Sunday. It's not the closest drive, but I've had to drive there multiple times for my kids' sports, and it's about 5 hours.

If you're not familiar with SkipLagged, it's an app that can save you money by finding flights that are cheaper because you are skipping a leg of your flight. So, for example, this $188 United flight leaves at 8:10 am and takes you through LAX to Montreal. There is a nearly one hour layover in LAX, then you fly to ORD, landing at 4:29 pm. Instead of continuing to Montreal (the cheaper route), you get off the plane in Chicago and don't take the last leg to Montreal. You can't check bags because your bags would be checked through to Montreal. Carry-ons only. The return flight is a 6:00 am flight on Sunday to Denver, through SLC. You get off in SLC instead of continuing on to Denver. May not want to do this too often, because I think the airlines get pissed at you.

As for roll-call, I will be in Scottsdale for my company's annual meeting and will be unable to be in Columbus. The irony is that the president of our company is a law school classmate of mine, and he is a Washington Husky. While I will be unable to watch most of the 1st and 2nd round games (for the first time in 40 years), I will be able to watch the the 1st round game with my "boss" as we duck out of other activities to watch our alma maters play each other.

Best deal I have found is through skiplagged...$289 for Salt Lake (leaving 5:15 AM Thursday) to Denver on Frontier then an Allegiant flight from Denver to Cincinnati (arriving at 11:19 PM Thursday). Three hour drive to Columbus from there. Flying home on Monday morning out of Cincinnati (8:10 AM) on a Delta flight destined for Denver, but bailing out during the layover in Salt Lake.

You could probably piece together something similar but less miserable for around $350.

See my search above for $100 less - but two hours more on the road.

108 miles from Cincy to Columbus on I-71. You won't need three hours.

I really appreciate the invite -- sounds like a lot of fun -- but I will be stuck "on campus" at the JW Marriott Camelback.

Funky hotel. I'm at the jw Phu quoc this week and it's built like a literal campus. It has a fictional backstory and a mascot and everything.

Hmmm. Sounds a bit odd. I actually like the JW Marriott Camelback. I've stayed there on three prior occasions. For corporate outings, I like that it's spread out with separate villas with a great outdoor space for gathering. I also like the proximity to several hiking trails.

I was not aware of the app. But became aware of the strategy in the last month due to this story:

Skiplagged is BS and a form of theft imo. Makes me sad that it’s being thrown around here so much as an option.

Maybe a sandbox topic, but I'm curious what is being stolen. It seems to me more like walking out of a movie before it's over.

It is BS and a form of theft? I disagree. First and foremost, I should point out I have never used Skiplagged, so I don't really have a horse in the race.

But here are my thoughts:

(1) But for the existence of Skiplagged, it is likely that certain passengers would never have purchased airfare in the first place, so except for completely sold-out flights, the airline is making additional revenues they would not otherwise have made.

(2) If a passenger skips out on the final leg of an itinerary, there is ZERO additional cost to the airlines, so ZERO damages (which is the primary rational those courts who have dismissed lawsuits arising out of this practice have adopted).

(3) Airlines use their oligopolistic power on certain routes to charge outsized airfares, but on other routes with greater competition are forced to match their competitors' pricing -- even if those routes are longer than the routes where they charge more exorbitant fares due to a lack of competition. If a customer figures out that purchasing a longer itinerary with a layover in their destination city is cheaper than purchasing a direct flight to the destination city, I don't see how that is theft. While airlines will do everything they can to prevent this in their terms of service, I'm not sure how they are damaged.

(4) How is it theft? A passenger engaging in this practice is purchasing a particular service knowing (s)he will use a smaller percentage of the service than the whole they are purchasing. If an airline wants to price a LONGER flight cheaper to compete with other airlines, that is on them. In the words of a noted ethicist: "Purchasing something doesn't mean you're obligated to consume it in totality. You can use whatever portion of the purchase you choose. If you buy a loaf of bread, you don't have to eat every slice."

As far as detrimental impact to other passengers, I haven't seen anyone articulate why or how there is any actual detrimental impact to other passengers.

Not to mention the practice of airlines overselling flights in the first place.
