What Would You Give Up to be in the Sweet Sixteen?
I don't typically don't like posts speculating about early departures, but as I was getting my hair cut tonight, I was sitting there thinking about what trade-offs I would be willing to make as an Aggie fan for a Sweet Sixteen run . . . .
Would you rather make the Sweet Sixteen if it meant losing Queta and/or Smith after this season, or would you rather beat Washington but narrowly lose to UNC if it meant keeping Queta and Smith around for at least another year?
Would you give one or both of them up to be in the Sweet Sixteen? Or would you want something more to lose one or both after this season? The Elite 8?
What if Queta went for 20-20 and 5 blocks in a win against UNC and suddenly the NBA scouts were drooling and enticed him to leave after his freshman season?
What if wins over Washington and UNC made P6 schools chase Smith the way they did mid-major coaches like Shaka Smart and Brad Stevens? What if someone offered him $2M-$3M to leave -- and he left? Would it be worth it to be in the Sweet Sixteen?
I think I would want something more than that to lose them after this season. Probably the Final Four. I'd love to have both of them stick around for another run next season. Lose narrowly to UNC this season, but make a Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight run next season . . . with Smith at the helm and Queta manning the post.

I would take a round of 32 exit where we push UNC to the brink with Sam, Queta, and Smith coming back over a Sweet 16 where they leave.

Yeah, I'd give both nuts. Win-win as I don't need more children.

I'd give my left nut if cancer hadn't already taken it

IMO, Smith could get picked up by another school even if he doesn't win in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. I'd hate to lose Smith, Queta, and/or Merrill but its going to happen sooner or later so I'm willing to trade all 3 for the Sweet 16 or better.

Re: What Would You Give Up to be in the Sweet Sixteen?
This is sort of an interesting question. There has been a little bit of chatter about whether Queta and Sam try to go pro after this year. I don't believe that Queta or Sam are going to go pro after this year no matter what (Queta too raw, Sam too small), but a deep run in the tournament could hypothetically swing the pendulum in a different direction.
My take is always that we want to win now and let the chips fall where they may. You never know how many opportunities you'll have to get to the Sweet 16. So in a hypothetical world where I can mortgage the next few years of Aggie basketball for one Sweet 16 appearance, I'd do it all day.

I'm pretty sure I could still function well with only one kidney. I decided to go this route since so many of you are already donating one or more nuts to the cause!

If you extended it to Final Four, then I'll really start to give up stuff.

If we make it to the sweet 16, I’ll only post positive things about our president in the sandbox or social media for 2 years.

A win against #1 seed North Carolina would do wonders for our program. It would put us on the national map like never before. That is what is exciting about this weekend. From a player standpoint It is like the Olympics in the sense that if you do well you can go from someone nobody has ever heard of to a national celebrity.

I don't know what I would give but I would be really ridiculously excited because then I would get to see them play in KC (my current location). A sweet 16 run will definitely impact the program farther down the road. Runs like that is how you start becoming an elite mid-major.
