UCF

Post by bluegrouse » March 24th, 2019, 5:41 pm

Could be worse. We could be UCF. It’s that us, that game haunts me for the rest of my life (after I get done crying for two weeks straight). Brutal.

Nothing like having your season roll around on the rim.

How would losing a second round game to the overall #1 seed be worse?

I was thinking the same, I'd take UCF's results.

No way, missing a dunk (about 2 mins left) and a tip-in at the buzzer would haunt me as an Aggie fan forever.

Just Brutal

Just that you missed the upset of the tournament against Duke and Zion Williamson (and the greatest win in school history) by a 1/4 of an inch. Brutal heartbreaker that would hurt forever. I really feel for them.

Same way losing to the defening national champions when you were up 11 in the final minutes was worse.

Is it just me? Thought Zion should of had a charge on the drive and iffy no-call on UCF's player's drive.

Probably would have been called earlier in the game. Hard to call that one in the final minute.

Zion got called a charge a few plays earlier that I didn't think was a charge and UCF's shot didn't touch the rim and should have been a violation. The no call at the end, good no call. Let the players decide the game unless its really obvious.

Shouldn’t a foul be called a foul regardless of the time in the game? Not that I expected them to call it, but shouldn’t the game be officiated in the last minute the same as it was for the first 39?

I'm theory yes but refs are more likely in the final minute of a close games to withhold calling a foul unless it's obvious. I see it happen all the time.

Id take their results over ours. It would sting forever, but they won a tournament game and came within the slimmest of margins of having a program defining win. It sucks, but they showed they had a legit basketball program that could compete with anybody in the country. Unfortunately we showed we had a ways to go.

I'd take their result over getting our @ss kicked by a mediocre tournament team in the first round.

I bet UCF feels a lot like a team that had the chance to knock down a game tying three against the eventual runner up.

Yeah, UCF really showed out against Duke. Amazing performance. But it would really hurt to lose a game like that because they should have won it. It took about four things going wrong in the final two minutes for them to lose that.

I would be willing to deal with the sting of defeat if it meant we had another NCAA win.

And the loss sucked, but every ucf fan left that game believing their team could compete with anyone in the country. I disagree that a close loss is worse than a blowout. There will be far more ucf fans excited about their program going forward because of this game than if they would have lost by 25, certainly more than if they would have lost in the first round. Just think to our football games against p5 opponents. The losses to auburn and usc stung, but they got you excited for the season and what we could do.

The point is at least we've forgotten about our game already, losing the way UCF did to the #1 team, and realistically could say if they win that game an elite 8 or final 4 is a legit possibility, is something that would haunt you for weeks/forever

Obviously he didnt mean he wouldnt rather win a game in the tournament than not win one, but to lose in that exact fashion is a disappointment that a sports fan will never forget

They almost beat #1 and was robbed by the rim. In other words they just won the natty!

Did anyone see the video of dawkins addressing the team after the loss and they are crying? Tough to watch, but also shows the beauty of sports. These kids put it all on the line. I cant imagine for the seniors knowing it is the end.

Exactly. Hell, I haven’t fully gotten over the Jerry Green or Pacific losses in the Spectrum (both over 14 years ago) and the stakes for those were minuscule by comparison. That’s all I’m saying.
