Sounds like it. From what I've heard, it wasn't his decision though. They've got a press conference scheduled now.

The situation seems a lot like ours with Stew. He seemed to be basically pressured to step down after a few down years after a very successful career. Let's hope the next few are like our Duryea years. Alex Jensen would be a home run hire though. Hard to imagine that one not working out if they can afford him.

The long reign of bat boy comes to an end. I'm not sure what the expectations are for that program but I'm certain they are unreasonable. I'm sure the boosters and fans down there are tired of knowing that they start the season in 3rd place and it's usually the best finish they can hope for. This season a couple of other WCC teams took some steps forward and are on the heels of the Coogs for that 3rd place spot. I wonder if watching these other teams improve while BYU remains stagnant added to the decision?

Good luck to their next coach. Should be fun with lil red, VW boy, and the rest of the Lehi varsity basketball team (I know that's not where they went to school, but I don't care enough to look it up).

zzzzzZZZzzZZzzzZZZzzZZZzzZZZZZzzz uh what hu? Did I miss something?

/s

In all seriousness, I heard from a pretty good and close source about two weeks ago that this would happen. I don't think it comes as a surprise to anyone though. Maybe he can go the Steve Cleveland rout, go coach at another MW school for a while then come back as a commentator.

This was overdue because Rose was an embarrassment to BYU. I hope that they get a better person for those players. I am not worried because our guys will beat BYU next season.

When you think about it, Rose was incredibly lucky to have the talent he had. It seemed like every year he had 1 or 2 NBA caliber players, most of them coming from Utah county. Davies, Mika, Childs... Then some guards who could jack up all the shots. You gotta think BYU's big man luck will run out eventually considering they suck at development. I never thought Rose was a bad dude though, not like Kryssy, who is probably my least favorite coach in college basketball.

NAR: Dave Rose being pushed out at BYU?

Post by Full » March 26th, 2019, 10:50 am

BYU is locked in on third place in the WCC in basketball. Can’t happen to a better bunch of fans. Next step is to hire a football coach this winter that will never get to a bowl game.

I see a pattern here:

Utah joins the PAC-12 - byu freaks out and leaves the Mnt west for the... Wet Goat Conference?
USU beats up on byu in Football two years in a row, KS on the very very hot seat. One more loss to us and he's toast!
USU wins the MWC and gets an 8th seed in the tourney, byu fires their head coach.

I love it

Homoe enters the office of Dave Rose
Holmoe: Hey Dave, we're going to put your basketball team in a small conference playing 90% of the time against teams no one cares about in front of crowds of 2,000. This will cause interest and recruiting to suffer, and when you fail because of it, we're going to ask you to resign. Sound good?
Dave: Um... that sounds terrible.
Holmoe: Where's your dedication to the church?
Dave: Um... okay?
Holmoe: Great! We're in agreement.
Holmoe departs with a waive.

I think Rose is a decent coach, and given the limitations on recruiting to BYU I think he outperformed. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him coach somewhere else, and UNLV could do worse (and probably will.)

I still hold his misrepresentation about scheduling USU against him, but that's been ten years or so. I find myself letting a lot of old grudges go.

Let’s see if I understand you. Rose is an embarassment because Nick Emery is an idiot, TJ Haws swore at a heckler and BYU lost a game to a team they should have beaten. You set a pretty low bar for judging Rose to be an embarassment. By your metric:
- Coach Smith is an embarassment because he lost to BYU by double-digits when he shouldn’t have
- Coach Wells and Coach Anderson were embarassments because Greg Weichers and Torrey Green were criminals
- Stew Morrill was an embarassment because he swore

Much can be said about Rose’s personality or his coaching ability but calling him an embarassment to his school or to his profession for the reasons you identify is nonsense.

Wow, you’ve managed to do the impossible — have me publically defend BYU and Dave Rose.

His biggest failures were Eric Mika, Elijah Bryant, and now Yoeli Childs. Today would be a helluva team. They all left eligibility on the table with no NBA future.

Yeah i dont know how rose was an embarassment. He was a pretty good coach for byu. He went to 8 ncaa tournaments and 5 nits, only missing the postseason this year. He also had a great record versus the instate teams. Im hoping this will be like the bronco situation where byu fans whined about the guy, but the team got worse after he was gone.

Rose had developed a rep for looking the other way for wins. Like the Utah coach, star players' issues were swept under the rug. I hope BYU gets a coach that is better for those players. Rose was losing to teams like San Diego with serious talent that involved the Emery situation. It was an embarassment to drag BYU basketball through mud then end it by being blown out by San Diego.

I think you meant to post this on cougarboard. I could care less if he is good or bad for their players. Is there really a San Diego College? Are they D1?

I think it's more a case of us having "little brother" syndrome and $hitting the bed once they see the school name on the jersey. For whatever crazy reason it's been this way at USU for a long time. The football team is finally getting over this and it's time the basketball team follows suit.
