Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
Just entered the transfer portal. Smith should be all over him. He is the type of Pg we need. Grad transfer with immediate eligibility.

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
Do you really think there’s a chance he comes here after all the racist chants he put up with in the Spectrum?
There’s no way he comes here though, right? If he did, I would welcome it. Just think there’s too much bad blood between the teams for him to consider it.

I don’t know why he’s transferring. He probably wants to go a less racist place than Logan, maybe an SEC school In the heart of the south.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 10th, 2019, 7:53 pmDo you really think there’s a chance he comes here after all the racist chants he put up with in the Spectrum?

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
Out of all of the players that played good minutes this year for Nevada, I didn't mind Jazz Johnson and Trey Porter. The twins, Caroline, an Musselman were really the only "Butts" on the team. I actually think he would be a perfect fit and would help with the PG situation tremendously. If he wanted to be an Aggie, I would cheer for him. But, I doubt he comes here....although, where else would he get good playing time and be able to possibly make the tourney. He could probably only make a lower P5 team, so who knows...maybe he comes here! He could have loved the excitement and fans at the Spectrum and thought how he would like to be a key part in a program like USU.

Doesn't the Mountain West have a rule requiring players that transfer within the conference to sit out an extra year. I'm guessing he wouldn't be eligible immediately.

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
If you bring in a grad transfer he needs to be better than porter. Of the few games I watched I didn’t think he was necessarily better, but I only saw a few games of him playing.

For regular transfers yes, I don’t think you can restrict grad transfers but I could be dead wrong.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2019, 8:15 pmDoesn't the Mountain West have a rule requiring players that transfer within the conference to sit out an extra year. He is better, especially offensively. Averaged 11 PPG and can create his own shot.

He also was being dominated by the ball hogging Martin twins and Caroline. I think he would thrive on a team like USU with other options that are good but not selfish.Madmartigan wrote: ↑April 10th, 2019, 8:23 pmHe is better, especially offensively. Averaged 11 PPG and can create his own shot.

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
The only thing required of a graduate transfer is that he attends a school that offers a graduate program that his prior school does not offer. Inter-Conference movement is not restricted. In fact, it happens often within the PAC-12 in football.Madmartigan wrote: ↑April 10th, 2019, 8:22 pmFor regular transfers yes, I don’t think you can restrict grad transfers but I could be dead wrong.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2019, 8:15 pmDoesn't the Mountain West have a rule requiring players that transfer within the conference to sit out an extra year. A facilitator that can score if/when needed, would be ideal.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2019, 8:31 pmHe also was being dominated by the ball hogging Martin twins and Caroline. He may go to Arkansas with Muss. Also, Alfred and staff will be trying hard to talk him into staying so he may not even leave.

I would take him, but I don't think he'd do that to the Nevada fanbase. Seemed like a genuine competitor stuck on a team of divas.

Don’t think that applies to grad students, but not 100%.ProvoAggie wrote:Doesn't the Mountain West have a rule requiring players that transfer within the conference to sit out an extra year. I'm guessing he wouldn't be eligible immediately.

Nevada guard Jalen Harris has entered the transfer portal as well. This will be his second transfer. I believe he orginally began his career at Louisiana Tech.

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
Yeah, you're exactly right. Why would we want a player who was 1st in the MWC in ORtg, 1st in NetRtg, 1st in TS%, 2nd in 3P%, 3rd in Offensive Plus/Minus, 3rd in FT%, 7th in Off Win Shares, 8th in Total Plus/Minus, 8th in 3P makes, 10th in Win Shares Per 40, and 11th in Total Win Shares? Yeah, he'd be a major disappointment and a huge step down from our current PG situation.
Pretty sure he's the ceiling of what we can get at this point.

Yup. Jazz would be a home run. I just have a really hard time seeing him wanting to come here after the bad blood between the teams this past year, but I guess you never know.ChicAggie wrote: ↑April 11th, 2019, 8:30 amYeah, you're exactly right. He is 5'10", what are his defensive stats, can he get to and finish at the rim, draw fouls, create for others?ChicAggie wrote: ↑April 11th, 2019, 8:30 amYeah, you're exactly right. I don't think these are his strengths, he is a good shooter.

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
I think the overall offensive efficiency numbers take into account scoring and several other metrics including assists and drawing fouls. There is so much more to this guy than "he's 5'10" and a good shooter."JFWAggie wrote: ↑April 11th, 2019, 9:13 amHe is 5'10", what are his defensive stats, can he get to and finish at the rim, draw fouls, create for others?ChicAggie wrote: ↑April 11th, 2019, 8:30 amYeah, you're exactly right. Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
In the end was there really bad blood or was it a case of Musselman and his seniors completely self destructing? We certainly played a part in that but it wasn't due to any animosity on our end.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 11th, 2019, 9:03 amYup. Jazz would be a home run. You do not like Sam because he spends a lot of time falling on the floor ?

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
All I know is with those numbers, he helps his teams win games. The Plus/Minus, Win Share, and Net Rating numbers -- which are among the best in the league -- take defensive impact into account, and his Defensive Rating number is solid. I certainly don't expect it to happen, but I would be absolutely thrilled if we could somehow get Jazz into an Aggie uniform.
He would become the Utah (State) Jazz.

There is a difference between going hard and falling and falling because the player breathed on you and you want the ref to give you a foul. And yes, I hate it when our players do it too, Koby did it all the time and I didn't like it.

Re: Grad transfer: Nevada PG Jazz Johnson
Defenders have to flop in basketball because the rules favor the offensive player so much that if the defender doesn't flop he has no chance to get the call.
Offensive players who flop should be ashamed of themselves.

No it will not end.
I believe that Sam flop's more than any player I have ever seen, but he gets a pass. Koby did what Tim wanted him to do, he is a good kid that played for a terrible coach.

This is spot on and one of the best and smartest things I've heard you say. Flopping is part of game strategy: hate it when the other team does it well, love it when yours does.
