You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Watch their jerseys go to a darker shade of blue to match that field and then claim “bUt BaYloR wEaRs GrEeN oN gReEn”

“Artificial turf typically lasts 8-10 years.” Merlin Olsen Field was last replaced in the summer of 2012. I wonder if/when it’s scheduled to be replaced?

Marketing "bang for the buck"? I personally find the blue field hideous and can't even watch highlights filmed on that field. And most of my friends in sport (who have no skin in the game) can't stand the blue field either. But I guess BS enjoys the reputation of having the ugliest surface on the planet.

Doesn’t it occur to Boise fans and brass that the only schools that join them in the “non-green turf” club are all FCS or below?

I may be familiar with the law firm that obtained the trademark for the blue turf.. :anonymous: :joking:

“ARE THERE OTHER COLORED-TURF FIELDS?

Boise State’s blue turf paved the way for other stadiums throughout the country — and even Japan — to install colored turf.

NCAA Division II West Haven has a blue and gold field first installed in 2009 at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium in West Haven, Connecticut. There are also colored fields at Eastern Washington, Lindenwood University, Coastal Carolina, Central Arkansas, Eastern Michigan and Hosei University in Kawasaki, Japan.”

Yeah, with a list like that they’re trendsetters not gimmicks....

Remember they were D-II when they did it, so there's that.

I kinda liked it at first too, it is pretty creative and it gives them come uniqueness. It really kinda feels gimmicky now though... When everyone seems to have a problem with it like they do now, it kinda starts to feel like they are the only baseball team wearing shorts.

I wasn't convinced about the blue turf until I saw it in person ... it's beautiful ...

Turf is not, and never will be grass. Why does it have to be green? I run on a synthetic belt rotating on a machine every day at the gym. I don't need my fake grass to be green either.

What if we installed a blue / grey, or blue / light blue stripes in Maverik? I think it could look good.

1. No team can install non-green turf without the permission of Boise State. They have a trademark on it. I'm serious.

2. Non-green turf is ugly in all cases (Boise, Eastern Washington, Eastern Michigan, et. al). I don't mind when the five yard strips of green are slightly different shades of green, but even that is on a case by case basis for me.

There’s no way they can trademark “non-green”, they’d have to trademark each specific Pantone.

Okay, let me rephrase:

No way they have a trademark on all non green turf unless they feel like it’s an easy to overturn trademark that they keep granting permission to use because it would get voided if challenge.

Clueness? That's a new one. Also seems a bit ironic.

Here's a pretty good article about BSU's trademark:
