Weber State AD to Utah State
Scotty G is reporting that Jerry Bovee is leaving Weber State to join our athletic department. I think Jerry has done great things for Weber, I wonder what role he will have here.
Either way, this is a big get for Utah State!!

This is clearly a step down for him, something is off with this.

Maybe Hartwell has given Cockett his notice and she has preemptively hired someone else. Without a national search, of course.

Re: Weber State AD to Utah State
Is he not the replacement for Jana ? He most likely see's a chance to advance into a A.D. at USU which would be a good thing for him. There is no smoking gun at Weber.BigBlueDart wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2019, 11:38 amMaybe Hartwell has given Cockett his notice and she has preemptively hired someone else. Re: Weber State AD to Utah State
My first thought was similar. He knows Hartwell won’t be here forever (or for much longer if things keep trending in the direction they are now), so he’s getting himself in a position to become USU AD when that time comes.oleblu111 wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2019, 11:45 amIs he not the replacement for Jana ? Jerry Bovee
Utah State has just hired Jerry Bovee as deputy AD! I think this is a home run hire. Nice work, John Hartwell!

No, he'll replace John whenever John leaves. He values the opportunity to get the USU job and they obviously got the salary to a point that made it worth the move.

Unfortunately my interactions with her involve her making things difficult when they could be great opportunities for the university. Bless her heart!

If Doggett left, and Barnes has left, that leaves two senior athletic department openings.

Jerry Bovee
Any thoughts on this new hire? Is this a new position (Vice President and Assistant AD) created for him or his he filling a spot? Is this possibly a sign that the AD is preparing to move on?

Re: Jerry Bovee
Jerry is a great dude. I love that he is now back to being an Aggie. He did great things for Weber. This has to signal though that sometime soon down the road he can become the next AD. At least imorove his chances.

Amy Crosby who is also at Weber State has been offered Jana Doggetts job. Crosby has also been offered the AD job at Weber State that Bovee just vacated.TheAKAggie wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2019, 3:45 pmIf Doggett left, and Barnes has left, that leaves two senior athletic department openings.

This isn't very hard to figure out guys. Hartwell's replacement is being hired for when he leaves in a year.

I think a position was basically created in order to bring Bovee onboard.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 24th, 2019, 8:22 amI thought Bovee took Jana's job? Re: Jerry Bovee
I think AK and I have some similar thoughts on this matter notwithstanding the development of Jerry over his productive years at Weber State, where he has done solid work. I wonder if this is an example of the "Peter Principle" at work.

When John Hartwell ultimately decides to move on, Bovee would certainly be a candidate with a leg up on the competition. But you also have to take into account that this job is going to be very attractive to a number of P5 assistant AD's as well as a number of current G5 AD's. USU athletics are a hot property right now. So we will need to select the best candidate, not necessarily the "hometown" kid. That move has backfired for us in the past.
