Sounds like you and I voted exactly the same way.

This is exactly you the 2 of you shouldn't have voted. I appreciate the fact that the zone believes that fans will try to be objective and not homers. It gives us the opportunity to see how difficult it is to rank the top 60 players in the state.

... because the boogars will be reasonable and clear-eyed in their evaluation of their own team's and other teams' players rather than chauvinistic, aligned, and irrational?

Fan voting is like this nationwide. Not to play the game how the game is played is to play not to win.

I would have a hard enough time ranking the 17 Aggies. I know next to nothing about the players from the other teams. I couldn't do this ranking at all.

What are trying to win? The total combined votes go into 1 large pool to set the fan vote rankings. Then it's only 1 vote. If the fan vote is an anomoley it will get thrown out any ways. I guess it's just more interesting to me to see how close I am to Hans and the media vote on who actually are the best players in the state. Just my 2 cents

No offense but I think your top 20 is way off base.
Fair, what would you change?
Your top 10 is very similar to mine we we differ is from 10 - 20. I have 4 aggies in my top 10. But only 1 or 2 from 10-20. None of the Weber st guys in my top 20. I don't have my print off of my top 60. It's in my desk at work but I could list it on Tuesday when I'm back.

If you really think the Zone believes fans will be objective, you must be the most naïve person roaming the interwebs. You also must not understand the meaning of the word “fan.” It is literally the opposite of “objective.”

1280 top 60

Post by dyedblue » May 25th, 2019, 3:14 pm

I can tell you who our top 5-10 players are. I can't tell you jack about BYU except for Nick Wilson is up for the Heisman.

I know Moss is good, Covey (always hurt), Blackman, and Anae are very good for Utah. Their D-line is always loaded and they play the most boring style of football in the West.

I didn't know Covey has been injured. I wish that kid had come to USU. I also noted in limited time watching him in college that he doesn't know what a fair catch is. That dude goes for gold every time, even if he's about to get lit up.

Covey played multiple games with a broken wrist and wasn't hurt his freshman year. Torn knee ligaments in the 2nd to last game. I'm not sure where the "always hurt" comes from.

If the list is most important to team, then Love is #1. If the best player, then it is Utah corner Jaylon Johnson. If he remains healthy, he'll be a first round draft pick in 2020. I base my ballot off best player/NFL potential. With that in mind, I'd say my top 5/6 as

1. Jaylon Johnson
2. Bradlee Anae
3/4. Love/Zack Moss
5/6. Woodward/Leki Fotu

You're right about the injury. A broken wrist, a turn ACL, rebreaking his wrist while weight lifting is all normal and shows no pattern of injury.

I’m no Jaylon Johnson expert, but if he’s project first round, then you’re probably right. Unfortunately, the QB position gets a lot attention, especially over defensive players. I’m not saying that’s right, it’s just kind of how things go.

With his size and the way he plays it is kind of a miracle he hasn’t really missed many games. You can tell he plays hurt at times though.

I'd love Covey here. Dude is tough as nails, but like Chuckie will not stay healthy playing with wreckless abandon.

Good stuff guys. So utesaggs where Anae projected in the draft? I had a few fans tell me he is there number one player for Utah? Where can we expect love to be drafted this year if all things go like we expect for him? Could he be a first round guy?

First round? No. 2nd or 3rd possibly. The problem with QBs is only one can play at a time. So the biggest issue will always be how many teams are looking for a QB? To be taken in the first round you have to be a franchise type QB...unless you're the Giants. There were 3 taken in the first round last year and 5 the year before. So theoretically 25% of the league has their guy. Then you have the proven guys like Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc.

The other thing is you have to sell the pick to your fans. So unless he puts up Heisman type numbers, he won't be as sexy as Jake Fromm, Tua, Jalen Hurts, Jacob Eason and others.

I may get roasted, but I want to see how he does in the new offense. Similar to how Mariota has done in the NFL. Is he a product of the system or the reason the system worked? I'd say with a good year, he's a 3rd round pick.

For Anae, I'd also say 3rd round. Loki Fotu could be as high as the 3rd as well. Zack Moss was getting 2nd round grades even after his injury. The wild card is Julian Blackmon. With the move to safety, he could play his way into a 2rd rounder as well. I also see Woodward as a 3rd rounder

Interesting article. Johnson seems like a sure fire guy. I’m surprised that they think Huntley will be drafted.

GMs will draft who they think is best not just name recognition. If they feel Love is better they will draft him over say a guy like jalen hurts. I’ve seen a lot of people say Love could be a top 5 qb this year from a pro football standpoint. If that really is the case I think there is a chance he could be taken in the first round. However sounds like Johnson is the most sure fire bet for the state for a first round pick this year.

I hate to say this, but I can not vote for any ewe of ewe player, after the latest snub of not playing USU in either football or basketball, I pay no attention to them, do not watch them on T.V. do not read newspaper stories about them.

I hope they enjoy their trip to Laramie for the home and home football series. I read about that on the Wyoming site.

I read on Rotoworld world that Loves home road splits need to improve for this year to be real big for USU. 2018 splits were 10.9 yards per attempt at home, 6.8 on the road. I think the CSU game was probably the main reason for this.

The Wyoming game was a culprit as well. That, and he wasn't able to pad his stats playing Tennessee Tech or New Mexico on the road.

To be fair, we wasn't allowed to pad his stats at home either, missing essentially three games due to huge leads at half-time.

I don't get the emotion around the top 60 list. It has zero impact on anything that matters in terms of W's. If we win and play well we get respect, if not, we don't. Based upon market size and fan base the Utes and Cougs will always get more pub but we have been getting plenty of love based upon how well our teams played last year. It is what it is. Go Aggies.

Go Aggies.
Exactly! I like watching the list but ultimately it is just something to do for 2 months before the season starts.

This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

The top 60 is summer filler. They need something to fill the time and no one in our market wants to listen to guys talk about baseball. So between NBA off-season drama, they fill time with the top 60.
