Jamaica Classic
I don't think this has been mentioned here previously, apparently USU will be participating in the 2019 Jamaica Classic, Nov. 21-25. I picked up a flier promoting ticket and hotel packages, which appear to be 5 nights hotel, all inclusive, with tickets to the games. There would be two games. It's unknown what other teams would be involved in this, and like other tournaments we've been in, there would be campus games as a part of the event.
I'm going to try to make it because I've never been to Jamaica and November seems like as good a time as any to go!

Of course it’s after I move out of Jamaica. Would have been stoked.

I'm definitely interested in going, despite the results I loved watching the team play in Cancun.

Re: Jamaica Classic
Looks like we have officially announced we are participating in the Jersey Mikes Jamaica Classic on twitter. Sounds like besides the already known teams of LSU, Rhode Island, and Utah State, North Texas will also participate. I believe there is still 4 spots up for grabs, which will probably be mid majors. I am hoping they will add one or two more power 5 teams!

Re: Jamaica Classic
The 4 teams that are missing are the lower division and definitely won't include any P5 teams. The 4 teams that have been announced will get home games against the lower division teams.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑May 7th, 2019, 12:47 pmLooks like we have officially announced we are participating in the Jersey Mikes Jamaica Classic on twitter. Re: Jamaica Classic
Anyone been to Jamaica? My next door neighbor just got back from being there for 3 day’s. Told me it is a s—-Hole as far as He,s concerned. Ghetto city every where. Money grabbers everywhere! I will never go to Jamaica again he said! Cayman and Cozumel he said weren’t bad but still would not go again. I am wondering since the 2017 Hurricane wiped everywhere out that they are trying to grouch as much money from the tourists to rebuild. My neighbor is not the only person that I have talked to saying that the Caribbean is no longer what it once was. Most say they will do their cruising on the European rivers thru Viking type ships! All said the Islands of the Caribbean are just plain ghetto now!
Anyone else feel the same way?

Re: Jamaica Classic
I lived there from 2015-2017. It’s dangerous. That’s the main issue. The lotto scam is out of control and it’s funneling all the violence on the island. The hurricane in 2017 didn’t affect Jamaica outside of a day of floods in isolated parts.troutputz wrote: ↑May 29th, 2019, 4:02 amAnyone been to Jamaica? This isn’t new to the Caribbean. In fact, it’s better than it used to be in a lot of ways.

Re: Jamaica Classic
So it is clear now, there is more pressure to schedule better teams in the Non-Conference schedule since the Jamaica Classic looks like one truly good team outside of us in LSU (who might get flatten by NCAA).ThunderAggie wrote: ↑May 17th, 2019, 9:01 pmNorth Carolina A&T added as one of the visiting teams per Blogging the Bracket. 3 more teams left.

We have BYU, (2 of the fellowing 3 LSU, North Texas, and Rhode Island),(rumored) Montana State, (rumored) some school in Arizona, and (I am guessing with the Beehive classic and playing them about every year) Weber State. I do wonder if Utah is on the schedule since they are part of the Beehive Classic. We usually faced Utah Valley and/or SUU.
I hope we get a game against Oregon State, Oregon, Washington, or Gonzaga.
Anyone have anymore info that is about the schedule? Do we face the small school teams of the Jamaica Classic?

Re: Jamaica Classic
BYU is the team that we are playing in the Beehive Classic this year. Utah will not be on the schedule this year. I assume that Weber State will be though. We haven't scheduled UVU since 2016 (we played them last year as part of the Vegas tourney we were in) and we haven't played SUU since 2013.SLB wrote: ↑May 29th, 2019, 11:13 amSo it is clear now, there is more pressure to schedule better teams in the Non-Conference schedule since the Jamaica Classic looks like one truly good team outside of us in LSU (who might get flatten by NCAA).ThunderAggie wrote: ↑May 17th, 2019, 9:01 pmNorth Carolina A&T added as one of the visiting teams per Blogging the Bracket. 3 more teams left.

Says something different
North Texas is not listed or seen anywhere instead there is North Carolina AT&T in the group.
So it looks the group is Utah State, LSU, North Carolina AT &T, and Rhode Island.

The Jamaica Classic has this as the 4 teams, and I can't find North Texas anywhere on the site.
LSU
North Carolina A&T
Rhode Island
Utah State

North Texas was listed in the USU press release too. I wonder if they dropped out.

Snap shot of the 2019 Jamaica Classic projected field of opponents and their 2018-2019 overall D1 record and NET rankings
NC AT&T (19-13 overall) #293 best team
Rhode Island (18-15 overall) #137 best team
LSU (28-7 overall) #16 best team
My guess that we face Rhode Island in the 1st round then LSU.
Works to our favor in SOS if this is the case.

Re: Jamaica Classic
I think there are 4 yet to be announced "sacrificial lambs" who will be a part of this tournament that get sent out to play two 1 or 2 games on the home courts of the "marquee" teams before the Jamaica games happen. Perhaps North Texas is one of those teams?
Now, how you determine the North Carolina Division of AT&T as a marquee team I don't know...

Re: Jamaica Classic
Good point, but it is interesting the same time that North Texas disappears from the Jamaica Classic site that North Caolina AT&T appears. It looks like North Carolina AT&T replaced North Texas, but to be completely certain no one knows exactly. My guess about North Texas is that they probably felt there was no way that they can win a game against the teams in the group, so they went a different route with their schedule.treesap32 wrote: ↑May 29th, 2019, 12:26 pmI think there are 4 yet to be announced "sacrificial lambs" who will be a part of this tournament that get sent out to play two 1 or 2 games on the home courts of the "marquee" teams before the Jamaica games happen. North Texas is showing up again along with Nichols State.

Samford and UMBC are apparently part of it as well.
