Don Verlin fired at Idaho
Unless the third violation that was redacted in the report was something major (which would seem very out of character), it would seem that Verlin was fired for cause in order to get the university out of the rest of his contract after a bad season. The two listed violations seem extraordinarily minor compared to everything else that goes on in NCAA basketball....

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
They’re stupid. The guy took 3rd place or better in the Big Sky in 3 out of the 5 past years. This after coming off of needing to keep the program afloat for several years while conference affiliation was a major issue.

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
You HAVE to be $hitting me. He got fired for this??? I can't wait to see how "hard" the schools come down on the coaches that are involved in the FBI probe. They'll all get told to go outside and pick a switch off a tree.

The administration at Idaho is a joke. Or rather, the way the state of Idaho handles the administration at its state universities is a joke, to the detriment of Idaho athletics.
At least that’s what I keep hearing from a buddy of mine who’s a Vandal alum

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
The good old days of being a Vandal have long been stomped into the dirt by Broncos. It's just unbearable for the alumni of the state's "mother ship" to be swallowed up athletically by what many remember to be a junior college. If they had just sucked it up and admitted years ago that the Big Sky was their best possible solution, a lot of humiliation and angst could have been avoided.trombone_ninja wrote: ↑June 15th, 2019, 10:50 amThe administration at Idaho is a joke. Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
Assuming that the third violation is as minor as the other two how do you get a new coach to show up? I doubt Verlin intentionally violated the rules and he didn't attempt to cover it up. If I'm the guy being asked to come interview I can't imagine I"ll be chomping at the bit to get the job.
This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

The interim coach is Zac Claus. He did a stretch at Nevada as an assistant..He is a really good guy and now he is getting a chance to show what he can do..I hope he gets the job.

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
Are you really wanting him to get the job or is this some back-handed death wish? We are talking Idaho here, you know.

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
No backhanded death wish. If he can win there he will get a good job elsewhere. If he loses, at least he got a shot.
When Trent Johnson took the Nevada job it was considered a career killing gig. He was happy to get a D-1 chance and he went on to be quite successful. Idaho has had good teams before, they can do it again..

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
Well at Idaho the leadership is well strange, they built a indoor football stadium that was great, but it is designed in a way that makes any expansion very difficult. Now they are ready to start on a $60 million dollar basketball arena that will hold all of 4,000 fans.
They are located in a small town with Washington state 8 miles away in another small town they have no interstate highway. It is hard to get there from most of Idaho. That is a tough job.

It's not a great job..However, there aren't all that many D-1 jobs open at any time..If nothing else Claus can use this opportunity to get a better assistant job somewhere..

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho
Did anyone else know that Verlin was to be the automatic successor to Stew when he retired?
