Last year's opponents in NBA draft
Matisse Thybulle - Washington - 1st round, pick 20 to 76ers
Cody Martin -Nevada - 2nd round, pick 36 to Hornets
Justin James -Wyoming - 2nd round, pick 40 to Kings
Jaylen Nowell - Washington - 2nd round, pick 43 to Timberwolves
Jalen McDaniels - San Diego St - 2nd round, pick 52 to Hornets
Dort from Arizona St. was projected as a 2nd rounder on some sites, but wasn't selected. Dude was awesome against us.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
After seeing Dort against us, I thought he was a sure fire first round pick.

Caroline signed a free agent contract with the Lakers and Caleb is expected to sign with someone as well.

Dort signed with OKC. I can’t believe he wasn’t drafted. I only watched him play a few times but he is Awesome. Probably my favorite player to watch that wasn’t an Aggie.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
CBS has Dort has the #1 guy that could make an impact that wasn't drafted. Also had Cheatham from ASU at #6.
If McDaniels has any kind of a NBA career I will officially admit that I have no aptitude for judging NBA talent. But, most of these 2nd round guys are crap shoots anyway.

After the ASU game, I thought Dort was a Lottery pick. He has an NBA body, I am shocked he wasn't drafted.

Yeah pretty shocked tbh, I guess Cody was the better defensive player and ball handler, but I think Caleb was far better offensively and has a higher ceiling.

Both are so mechanically broken but it will take a lot to remove the hitch and leg kickMetsJetsAggies wrote:Yeah pretty shocked tbh, I guess Cody was the better defensive player and ball handler, but I think Caleb was far better offensively and has a higher ceiling.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
Cody doesn't have a leg kick when he shoots. Until Drew got hurt he basically just played the 4 for both NC State and Nevada. When he got a chance to play the point his game really expanded. He went from an undersized 4 to a big 1. His mechanics are not broken at all. He is fundamentally sound.
Caleb has a different game but he has been dealing with a Lisfranc injury. That is the same injury that ended the career of the kid you had a few years back.
That is not an excuse..He didn't shoot well this last season but the year before he shot very well. Still, it is next to impossible to get to the NBA for most college kids..I think he will get into a camp this year and that gives him a chance..That is pretty much all you can ask for.

Speaking of the draft..
Espn just posted their first 2020 Mock Draft
They have Quetta going to Philly with pick 54 and Derrick Alston to Charlotte at 46.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
If things stay that way (and I absolutely do not believe they will), I wonder if there is any chance Queta would stick around for his junior season? Seems like the safest way to make coin in the NBA is to be a 1st rounder.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
If Smith is as good at development as has been discussed, Queta should be AT LEAST a first round-pick, if not a lottery pick. We'll see though. Queta seems motivated enough and has all the physical tools.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
I don't think it's a matter of development. I think it's an issue of the NBA not really valuing a big man they way they used to. Most teams want to shoot 50 3's a game and hope 20 of them go in. Teams seem to be looking for shooters not guys like Queta and Bol.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑June 22nd, 2019, 12:34 pmIf Smith is as good at development as has been discussed, Queta should be AT LEAST a first round-pick, if not a lottery pick. Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
I think Bol dropped because of injury and mental drive concerns not talent. Guy could have been a top 5 talent. He is also a great 3 pt shooter.aggies22 wrote: ↑June 22nd, 2019, 2:41 pmI don't think it's a matter of development. Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft
I agree with your main idea, but I think the NBA wants small centers who can play inside and outside. Queta has the perfect body that NBA scouts are looking for in a center. He is long enough to defend the paint, but small enough to guard 3-point shooting centers if necessary. If he can develop some better quickness and improve his shot from outside (which isn't terrible right now), then he could be a lottery pick. Just my 2 cents tho. In reality I have no idea.aggies22 wrote: ↑June 22nd, 2019, 2:41 pmI don't think it's a matter of development. I think it's an issue of the NBA not really valuing a big man they way they used to. Fort seemed to drop off over the course of the season. It is sad because he has lottery body and talent.

Great kid, terrible work ethic, handler is a nightmare. From someone who worked/dealt with both.slcagg wrote:I think Bol dropped because of injury and mental drive concerns not talent.
