Like I said before, if it is truly the best player, then it will be Jaylon Johnson. If it is most important than Love, since he probably makes the difference between 6 and 8 wins

I thought it was interesting that Johnson was 4th team all American on athlon...which makes him about the 7th or 8th best corner in the country. Does the draft usually have 8 corners drafted in the first round?

I mean, Phil Steele (who actually does in depth research) has him as #3 in the country.slcagg wrote: ↑June 20th, 2019, 9:15 pmUtesAggs>BYU wrote: ↑June 20th, 2019, 8:43 pmLike I said before, if it is truly the best player, then it will be Jaylon Johnson. It would be easy to settle this on the field. QB v. DB. Too bad Utah is too chicken (I can't express myself without swearing) to allow that to happen.UtesAggs>BYU wrote: ↑June 20th, 2019, 9:42 pmI mean, Phil Steele (who actually does in depth research) has him as #3 in the country.slcagg wrote: ↑June 20th, 2019, 9:15 pmUtesAggs>BYU wrote: ↑June 20th, 2019, 8:43 pmLike I said before, if it is truly the best player, then it will be Jaylon Johnson. Don't think so. Unless USU goes on a very long win streak. Just too much sl media laziness.

Nope. Just took a step down in the eyes of the media when he joined the Aggies. So, even though he started for the utes last season there will be 3 WRs from that school ranked higher than Mariner.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
In fairness, Mariner had only 17 catches for the Utes, didn't he? That was only tied for 6th on his team -- and four of the players ahead of him were WRs (the other was a TE) (that total would have been only 8th best for the Aggies). While there is definitely SLC media bias in favor of Utah and BYU-P over USU, Mariner's one season with Utah didn't exactly light the world on fire. I'm surprised he's ranked at all.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
Haha, started maybe the first 3 or 4 games and then was beat out by a freshman. By the end of the year he was the 5th best receiver on the roster. He also had the bonehead play of the year when he didn't just drop a pass, no he tipped it directly to the Washington corner who returned the INT for the game winning TD in the Pac-12 Championship game. He absolutely regressed year over year, but I hope he has a bounce back year up there. He's a good guy and deserves success after taking a ton of heat over that play.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
I ask myself why is a ewe of ewe fan on this board ? There are no more games being played between the lady sheep, and USU in either major sport.
They are dead to me even with me going to school down in Sheet Lake City. I was even a season ticket holder at one time now I do not watch them, read about them or care about the ewe.
They have even passed YBU in arrogance which is sad indeed.

I actually find this ranking ridiculous. Alfred should easily be inside the top 30.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
I agree. After last season I was actually starting to let myself believe that we were getting some more respect from SLC media, but maybe I just let myself get trapped in a Hans and Scotty echo chamber. This list is as bad as ever this year. At this point I'm expecting to see Jordan Love around 12 or so.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
Yeah. I understand the bias, but I didn't think they'd be this openly biased. They're gonna drop every Aggie player not named Love or Woodward somewhere between 30-60 and call it good. I think Hans and Scotty might be the only two 1280 guys who know anything about any Aggie players anyway, so whatever.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
Exactly how I felt. Alfred should be in the top 3 OL in the state. I think he is the best...and that will prove itself out when he is drafted.
Also... I am pretty sure Love will be the second or third QB on the list. Sad but true.
Re: 1280: 60 in 60
This is clearly biased towards the bigger market schools, but I would love to see Tipa get into the top 10. That guy is going to have a special year– yet at this point, the media can't even say his name right

I don't put a lot of stock into these rankings, but I think it is pretty pathetic that they won't release the media votes. If someone votes Wilson ten spots higher than Love and we whoop them by three TDs again, I should absolutely be able to terrorize that idiotic media member on Twitter (such is my God-given right).

Love will be the top qb and the only reason why is that is a cant miss. The Utah media is once again proving they are lazy and don’t do any research.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑June 24th, 2019, 3:43 pmExactly how I felt. Alfred should be in the top 3 OL in the state. One funny thing from the show today is Hans was essentially complaining about the fan vote today and how BYU didn’t vote and Utah and usu mostly did. I wonder when he will actually complain about the bias and lack of knowledge of those are paid to do this in the media.

I hope it’s just apathy is setting in down in BYU-Provo. If they don’t take that AAC opening UCONN is gifting them I see a long decline. I don’t believe they want to “lower” themselves to a G5 team, but they’ll look back at the opportunity to join the AAC like they look back at snubbing the Big 12 when they had an opportunity to get their foot in the door.slcagg wrote:One funny thing from the show today is Hans was essentially complaining about the fan vote today and how BYU didn’t vote and Utah and usu mostly did. As for the list. The media doesn’t have to care about USU yet so they won’t. Look at the popular sports writers. Monson and the Rock monster know it’s easier to generate clicks by throwing red meat than to show up and watch practice to put out content like 22 does. There are a few hard working reporters out there, but none of them cover USU. Most of us read this board because it’s better than any media coverage we get.

Sports media personnel are like weather men. They can blab on and on about what they "know". After the event, they blab on and on about new stuff. They never have to be accountable for their blabbery.

FWIW, Edwards is the fourth highest graded freshman OT in the country last year. This comes from PFF.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
For whatever reason, I have never been invited to participate in the 1280 media portion of the vote. Because of that, I've never really looked too deeply into it. I just complain when an Aggie comes up and I think he is ranked too low.
With that being said Al being ranked #48 is asinine. Especially when Brady Christensen will show up inside the top 35 and the left tackle at Utah will show up in the top 25. Left tackles are always considered the most athletic among his fellow offensive linemen. Al Edwards is at the very least #35 in the state.
