Leadership trip

Post by slcagg » July 13th, 2019, 7:23 am

Get away for captains and leaders. I believe this is something new with Gary and I’m guessing not funded by the school.

I remember hearing of one at Bear Lake but maybe that was the whole team (or even just hanging out). I have done a winter one in Park City. They are pretty cool.

Probably a good idea, but I wonder how the rest of the team feels about the "leadership" going off on a boondoggle without their teammates. Any chance this could cause any resentment? Probably not, but who knows?

I had the same thought. Also, I am sure the athletic department has plenty of coin for this kind of thing. My son played college Bball and I was always amazed at the things they had money for.

If any of the kids not on the trip are competitors at all, something like this should make them want to step their game up and become leaders without "officially" being recognized as "leaders". If you show your ability to be a leader among your peers the recognition will often follow.

"Should" is the key word in your post. That would be the ideal scenario, but we've all lived in this world long enough to know that creating separation between one group and the other often engenders more resentment within the excluded group than an internal drive to elevate themselves into the "leadership" ranks. Certainly not saying that will happen here, just seems like a potential danger.

this is something that Kyle W has done at Utah for years. My friend, ( who by the way was the Robbins man of the year at USU- who is now a big die hard ute fan) has a place in Deer Valley and has had the Utah football leadership team up there doing similar activities. he has sponsored that type of event for many years. makes me sick
