Re: USAToday Group of 5 Rankings: USU NR
While I don't see us as the best G5 team this year, and there are questions around us, I am surprised how low they have us. I wonder what our "USA TODAY Sports’ summer ranking" is. They have BYU-P at 55 and didn't list us as a "just missed" so I have to assume we are sub 60.

UNT? You mean the team we beat by 40 last game of the year? Seems a bit silly.SEOhAg wrote: ↑August 15th, 2019, 10:04 amhttps://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/n ... 770477001/

Seeing that we will play 5 teams ahead of us on this list in Boise, SDSU, Fresno, Air Force, and BYU-P, we certainly will have our chance to prove where we belong in this conversation.

They must return everybody from the team that we absolutely slaughtered without most of our then coaching staff...slcagg wrote: ↑August 15th, 2019, 10:29 amUNT? Re: USAToday Group of 5 Rankings: USU NR
Those rankings are very suspect in my opinion. It seems that the reasons that we could've been knocked down, new coaching staff, graduated offensive production, etc. are also facing some of the teams up high on the list.

Re: USAToday Group of 5 Rankings: USU NR
I love that they left USU off. Preseason means nothing anyway, and if the team is paying attention, hopefully it is motivating.

"Preseason rankings don't mean anything about how good you are just how respected you are." paraphrasing Coach Smith.
This disrespect hopefully motivates them, but I certainly don't love that we were left off.

Meh. I’m not that confident we’ll be good either. We’ll find out soon!

I hate that they're doing a separate power rankings for G5 conferences.

Re: USAToday Group of 5 Rankings: USU NR
It sounds to me that whoever put this list together didn't do much homework. San Diego State and Fresno State suffered similar losses in productivity and Air Force and that loser school from the south DO NOT even belong in the conversation.SEOhAg wrote: ↑August 15th, 2019, 10:04 amhttps://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/n ... 770477001/

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

This is a great opportunity to prove these predictions wrong. I believe we will, but you never know what is going to happen.

We bumjugged North Texas in the bowl game. We lost some play makers, yes. But we didn't lose nearly enough to now be considered that much worse.

It's because we're a p5 school per GA.

Re: USAToday Group of 5 Rankings: USU NR
Myerberg used to be the best when he wrote about G5 teams. He would pick up on so much every other national writer would never talk about. His previews were way above Phil Steele. I religiously read his articles about ever opponent and team in the conference. I think with his new job he doesn’t need to put in the work required to know about all the FBS teams, or maybe the passion for his work has faded as he got older. Either way having Air Force and North Texas listed without USU I think show a lack of homework and respect. Stick it up on a board and give the team another enemy.

Didn't UAB fold shop on their football program a few years ago? How do you go from folding shop to perinatal G5 contender?AGNUMPI wrote: ↑August 15th, 2019, 4:23 pmRanked below UAB...slcagg wrote: ↑August 15th, 2019, 10:29 amUNT? I haven't paid any attention to them the last 2 years. 8 wins in 2017 (their first year back after missing 2015 and 2016 seasons and having to rebuild with JC recruits) and 11 wins in 2018. Granted they are in the CUSA, but still. That is crazy.

if you want to see a joke, go take a look at army's schedule. an FCS team could go 6-6 with it.

Army plays Michigan and later on Air Force and Hawaii. The AFA game will be a solid measuring stick for the strength of Army. As Quack has noted, the Army schedule is pretty light this season.
