He should be all the field a lot more. Not sure why he’s sharing reps with Compton.

He won't be for much longer. This dude is a JoJo clone. At least in playing ability not with his off the field antics.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑September 8th, 2019, 12:31 amHe should be all the field a lot more. Not sure why he’s sharing reps with Compton.

The guy is extremely impressive. I was perplexed at why he played so little against Wake. Hope to see more of him!

And Compton is more of a TVL clone. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Like TVL he has Great hands and route running but not a lot of YAC, like Jojo and Thompkins.aggies22 wrote: ↑September 8th, 2019, 8:24 amHe won't be for much longer. This dude is a JoJo clone. He said in the post game last night he runs a 4.31 40. That's likely the fastest dude we've ever had in an Aggie uniform.

Re: Deven Thompkins
Even more impressive than his straight line speed is his lateral quickness and shiftiness. The Jojo comparison was spot on.

I haven’t noticed if he is still being used on the punt return team or not. He was really good last year coming off the edge for blocks.

Neither of them had Tompkins lateral quickness or initial burst off a change of direction I don't think.

He's Joe Joe Natson with better size, power, and overall speed.

Hand Timed 4.21. 4.35 in the combine with electronic laser.Smokin Joe wrote: ↑September 8th, 2019, 10:22 am
IIRC, Kevin Curtis went sub 4.3----like 4.26 or something.
I'm guessing Thompkins was a hand time too. I ran high school track in the transition era of the electronic/hand time transition where we only had photo times at the larger meets either at USU or Provo. We usually factored a .12 difference with hand times being faster. I think that's pretty accurate in 40 times too but it depends on the timer. Michael Smith's and Joe Hills times I believe were at pro day which I believed were hand timed by scouts but may be electronic timed too. Pro day times almost always beat the combine times.

Key for what? LSU is going to chew us up and spit us out, and will do so even if we have 11 Thompkins's on the field at once.usubullzone wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 12:41 pmI honestly think that he is a big key in the LSU game.
I'm actually excited for LSU (and I'm going to the game), but barring interference from an unexpected life-force somewhere in the outer-reaches of the universe, they will beat us no matter what we do with DT.

Re: Deven Thompkins
You are probably right but the last time I totally counted us out of a game was BYU 2014. They were 21 point favorites. Ranked 18th in the country and had the whole Taysom for heisman campain. We had also just lost our starting QB and needless to say went down there and put a beat down on those boys. I learned then that I will never count us out of any game. They may overlook us and anytime you've got an NFL quarterback on your team I say we have a chance!. Go Aggies918AGG wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 1:28 pmKey for what? Yes, you're right about that one. I never really bet on college football, but this might be a great opportunity to hedge against my happiness if the line is anything near LSU -21. I'll guess that it'll be higher than that...deltaaggie wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 1:40 pmYou are probably right but the last time I totally counted us out of a game was BYU 2014. Re: Deven Thompkins
LSU is not BYU. Further, LSU is now throwing the ball and has a stud QB of their own. I'd prefer to play a traditional SEC team that tries to ground and pound for 60 minutes.deltaaggie wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 1:40 pmYou are probably right but the last time I totally counted us out of a game was BYU 2014. Re: Deven Thompkins
I'm sure everybody noticed the punt return game Saturday night, with Nathan and Thompkins both lining up deep. When the Seawolf punter kicked away from Nathan, Thompkins took it in for 6.
I suspect we're going to see some fakes and handoffs and other daring-do by those two guys as the season progresses. I cannot wait to see it.
