Re: Secondary injuries...
What exactly is the Cam Haney injury and why the slow return?
Maybe GA just playing possum with Rocky?
At this point, I say roll with the youth and see where it puts you further into the schedule. Just let Lampkin and someone like Tatum take the corner spots and send DJ back to the nickel.

Re: Secondary injuries...
If we're really "obviously having some serious issues at corner", I'd love to see this defensive package:
DL: Galeai, Unga, Anderson
LB: Woodward, Tei, Meitzenheimer, Gilliam
Safety: Lefeged, Bond
Corners: Lampkin, Williams
I feel like that's getting a combination of speed and our 11 best available players on the field.

I'd like someone to call in on the Coaches Show Thursday night and ask if there has been any thought to changing things up a bit in the secondary. I would but I'm too shy.Aglicious wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 4:20 pmWhat exactly is the Cam Haney injury and why the slow return?

Re: Secondary injuries...
Looking at the roster Adams is Ashton Adams, a 300 lb 6'4" Freshman "O" lineman. Haney is a Sr and Jackson is a Soph. The ranks are thinning out. Curious about the Haney injury as he is a 3 yr veteran and should be fairly hardened to the level of D-1 football after 3 full seasons.paaron46 wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 3:41 pmDo we.... do we have any other defensive backs?Smokin Joe wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 3:30 pmHaney, Jackson and Adams are out for SDSU per GA in the HJ.

Gary likes an aggressive defense that relies on exceptional corner play. This spells trouble.

In the game notes for this weeks game it has Haney as second string corner. Guessing he is still up in the air.

Re: Secondary injuries...
They did nearly put Haney in against Stony Brook. I saw it with my own two eyes. Haney was right next to Coach Orphey with his helmet on waiting for the word to take the field.

Re: Secondary injuries...
This is the reason we look good, but not great. Great would have won at WF and wowed at SB.
I get confused by our defense scheme. I don't understand why stack the DL when it isn't getting a good ROI with QB pressure? Why not drop more people into coverage- 3rd linebacker? can we successfully play press coverage? Why not give someone a zone assignment that would pick off a pass that they are repeatedly throwing and having success with? I got sick of WF and SB throwing the same pass over and over and it's like the D never adjusted to stop it.
I just hope the coaches are able to outsmart teams this year. Otherwise, this position group talent-wise looks like the hole that sinks the Titanic. Or maybe it's the scheme they are not having success in? Saturday can't get here soon enough...

Tipa and Tei would need to be switched, but this is basically what we are running right nowRoy McAvoy wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 4:29 pmIf we're really "obviously having some serious issues at corner", I'd love to see this defensive package:

How come you say that? Against Stony Brook this is the exact package we used for a bit. Te’i was playing LB and Tipa was still on the D line.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 6:48 pmTipa and Tei would need to be switched, but this is basically what we are running right nowRoy McAvoy wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 4:29 pmIf we're really "obviously having some serious issues at corner", I'd love to see this defensive package:

Re: Secondary injuries...
Tipa is not a true defensive lineman. He’s definitely a hybrid EDGE/OLB guy that puts pressure on the backfield and plays contain on the weak side. The only difference between the 4-2-5 this year and the 3-3-5 last year is Tipa’s classification. Te’i plays strong side DE, which is much more of a classic role for a DE.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 6:51 pmHow come you say that? Vs SB we forced 5 straight 3-and-outs to start the game. By the time they got their first first down of the game, the game was over. Re: Secondary injuries...
Truthful comments Browjeans about the game against S B being over early, yet it was just S B. Appears to me our defense is very athletic, yet not nearly as disruptive as I've seen over the past few seasons... Just me wondering why we are playing such apparently vanilla defense this season.

Re: Secondary injuries...
I’m assuming the coaching staff has been waiting to unveil some new defensive looks until this game. From my understanding Ena loves to blitz and get after the qb, which we haven’t seen much in the first two games. Wake did that delayed RPO thingy so we probably didn’t get very exotic in that game...and we didn’t need to show our hand at all in the SB game. I’ll be shocked and disappointed if we see the same vanilla against the Aztecs.

At least I don’t think SDSU is equipped to really challenge our corners a whole lot. Sure they say they run a spread now but so think they just do that to open things up for their running game. TBH I like our chances on Saturday.

Re: Secondary injuries...
I'm feeling the same way. Though, Gary did mention during the press-conference that SDSU seems to have abandoned the spread and gone back to their heavy 2 or 3 TE sets. Regardless, I think we see more of a ground game from them, though we'll need to stay alert on Pass D. Given that we may not see much blitzing against them, either.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑September 18th, 2019, 11:40 amAt least I don’t think SDSU is equipped to really challenge our corners a whole lot. Almost a shame really, because Agnew is not equipped to keep a play alive and I think our DL would have made life very miserable for him if they'd tried to pass 35-40 times.BigBlueDart wrote: ↑September 18th, 2019, 1:02 pmI'm feeling the same way.
