Air Force
Great win tonight but how do we get a road win at Air Force? How will our d do against the triple option? Air Force has been racking up a lot of yards and points on O. Also our offense isn't helping out our d with all of our 3 and out possessions. Our offense will have to step it and hopefully be a little more creative. Go Aggies!

I don’t think we will score enough to win. I think we will perform well on defense but lose 27-17 or so unless we get another non offensive TD

Geez. The way people talk about AFA on this board you’d think we were playing Alabama next week.

I’m more worried about the AFA and BSU games than BYU — mostly because those game actually matter and I don’t allow BYU to live rent free in my head.
But with BYU, it will depend which of their jekyll/hyde teams shows up. I think BYU will play us like it’s their super bowl because of the last few years and because it’s the last meaningful game they will play in all season.
I would trade a 40 point loss to BYU for wins over AFA and BSU. Without hesitation.

Not enough credit to the defense. They will be ready and give the team every chance to win the remainder of the games.

Re: Air Force
Air Force is super tough and there offense is playing great. I think our defense is going to come ready to play. I think it helps that our d-line plays a lot of players. I really believe our defense is good enough to guide us to victory so long as the offense can sustain some drives and get us~25 points. I know the team has put extra focus on preparing for air force similar to how they spent extra time preparing for SDSU.

Re: Air Force
We proved that we can win, even with our offense being off. If we can get the offense clicking, which we all know we can, we can be very good. Receivers have to catch balls, more creative playcalling, and runs to the outside. Our drives when we finally started clicking, we scored twice in 66 seconds and then ran out the clock on the next drive. We can do this. Our defense is great and so is special teams, and I’m confident that the offense can get back to being great.

Re: Air Force
Going 3 and out against AF plays right into their style of play. Going 3 and out fast and uptempo is an absolute recipe for disaster. If we don’t have our best game yet offensively this one will get ugly IMO.
Does anyone remember last time in Colorado Springs? One of the most frustrating games. We scored fast and fairly often. Ended up with quite a bit more yards than them but they just wore us completely down as the game wore on and ended having double the number of plays than we did on O. Controlled the clock and they beat us on the last drive of the game. That wasn’t nearly as good of an AF team as this one imo. We are a better Defensive team than that years team but our offense isn’t going to be able to score enough points.

Re: Air Force
One thing that I think this year's team has going for it is that we are no longer using the "bend don't break" approach that Patterson favored. Last year we would absorb little gains over and over with the intent of turning the ball over to our offense. AFA doesn't make many mistakes, so we had that memorable game in the Mav (which we still won, btw).
This year, we are getting teams off the field much quicker. I believe we forced Nevada into 10 straight three-and-outs after their initial drive that netted them a FG. I also think that our base 3-3-5 lends itself to easier adaptation for AFA. Justus Te'i can play with his hand in the ground, or standing up. Tipa can do the same. Given our depth with defensive linemen (Devon, Jacoby, Hale, Unga, Caden, Heniger, Baker, and Pitcher), I am actually sort of optimistic.
Add in two very rangy LB's in Woodward and Meitzenheimer, plus a dude built to play against option offenses (Troy Lefeged, a born bruiser), and I think we are in pretty good shape defensively!
We CANNOT turn the ball over and we've got to get Bright and Jaylen going. Last year Bright and Darwin only combined for 135 yards (albeit on just 17 carries). We need to see 30+ carries between our feature backs.

Re: Air Force
I don't miss that guy. AF doesn't typically give you many reasons to hate their guys as they are usually pretty good humans, but in my opinion and from my limited experience with Steelhammer he's far and away my least favorite zoomie. Devante Mays had been out for weeks with a knee injury and came back for the AF game and the very first play he's in Steelhammer comes flying in and goes right for Mays knee, dirty as hell. The douche bag ended up getting tossed later in the game for targeting on Myers. He had a great name for football, he just needed to play it the right way.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑October 21st, 2019, 7:43 amI miss Weston Steelhammer. Re: Air Force
I watched AF against Hawaii and Navy. We should beat them. Our players are superior. It was interesting watching those games because I was impressed with the QB play on AF (both guys) and Navy. Not so much the Hawaii blond dreadlock dude. It takes him longer to release the ball than it takes to get Heinz ketchup out of a fresh bottle. Big wind up. The AF QB's don't make mistakes, they don't have great arms but make plays, they have excellent ball fakes. They take off and run the ball and can score. One of them ran 60 yards for a TD. AF is all about their offensive scheme. Navy put up a great defensive scheme, got to figure we can do the same.
In order to get a real perspective, I watched our Nevada game. As much as I like the game management skills that the AF QB's have, they aren't close to Love skill wise, not even a little bit. It shows that you can be successful without a big arm QB. It also confirms what I've been haranguing about all season, Love needs to wake up. He has incredible arm talent, but lacks focus and game savvy. That could cost us the game against AF. I saw one prediction that said we are even and it would be turnovers that determine the outcome. It's totally coaching IMHO with Love.
As USU fans we see all the Aggie bad plays. I've seen all Loves mistakes. Watch highlights of another team and you don't usually see their mistakes. It can make it seem like these other players and other teams are superior. AF is not better than us.
