Re: PLEASE! Cut Down on the Late-Start Games!!
It’s not the time, it’s the temp. My Boise cousins have been complaining about late, cold starts for 10 years. But it comes with winning.Imakeitrain wrote:8 PM really isn't that bad if you live in the Mountain, or Pacific time zones. Several pro games start around 8. Every World Series game has a first pitch shortly after 8 EST (including those played here in DC). So, sorry- 8 something is perfectly fine and fans need to get over it. If it's good enough for Max Scherzer it's good enough for Logan-ites.
What stinks is for those of us watching on the east coast, and games are ending at 2 AM. On one hand, it's hard to get national recognition if games are ending 2 AM. On the other hand if we aren't on TV at all then it's REALLY hard to get exposure. I'm happy enough to watch USU football at all.

We might be looking at this the wrong way. Maybe an 8 pm kick time will deter Cougar fans from coming to the November 2 game. I'm more than willing to brave the late start and cold weather to have fewer of their fans at the game.

Re: PLEASE! Cut Down on the Late-Start Games!!
I decided to look into this further. The average attendance from 2013-2018 for games that start at 8:00 or later is 20,016. And I don't think it's the quality of opponents either when you look at the breakdown of who we've played in those games:Intermeddler wrote: ↑October 20th, 2019, 9:44 pmHow many post 6:00 games do we have that don’t start at 8:15 or 8:30?
And of course it’s skewing the results the quality of the opponent is what I’d guess is the biggest variable affecting attendance not start times or weather
Air Force (3x)
Wyoming (1x)
Fresno (1x)
New Mexico (1x)
Boise (1x)
The Boise game was the 5th best attended post 8:00 game in that time period and actually had an attendance level below the average (19,012).

Re: PLEASE! Cut Down on the Late-Start Games!!
Really working hard today
We actually have a sweet spot, in the afternoon. Looking at home games between 2013 and 2018, games that start after 5pm but before 8pm, have the highest average attendance and the highest winning percentage.
Unsurprisingly, start time is definitely an issue in November.
I'll look at weather later.

In addition, I also think it's interesting that during that time (2013-2018), we only had 1 game starting before 6pm in the top ten for attendance.
And apparently if we want to boost our numbers we should schedule BYU, BSU, AF, or Weber.

But to know if opponent quality is the primary variable, you would have to hold everything else constant, quality of our team, weather, start time, special events (i.e. homecoming, fall break, deer hunt, etc.).
