Air force only has three points in the third quarter against Army.
Army is not a great team....and AF has only three points ...almost the fourth qtr.
we couldn't have stopped them if we played 20 quarters last weekend.
it's a good thing we take every opportunity to prep for the AF attack, spring ball, fall camp, bye weeks, every years it is the same ol..."we spend so much time on Air Force in our preparation.....
maybe we are going about it the wrong way in how you defend them.

Also worth considering that we see the triple option once a year, and Army runs the thing.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
I think the D is fine, it's the O that's the problem. Pretty sure I heard Gary say that our D had played two more games than anyone in the conference as far as snaps played I remembered that comment because I was so amazed that our O sucks so bad. I began to wonder if there is some grumbling in the locker room. If I was a defensive player I wouldn't to to happy with the Offense right now. This kind of stuff is was can divide a locker room.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
Our record with AFA since joining the MWC is now 3-4, apparently we can defend, and score, on them about half the time.
This year's defense did not fair well against them, suggests that like the offense this year's defense leaves a bit to be desired as well.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
I don’t think we have a bad defense overall. There have definitely been struggles, but all things considered, the D has contributed far more to our wins than the O. However, the Defensive performance at AF was one of the saddest, most poorly coached game plans I’ve ever seen. There’s plenty of talent, yet we were clearly nowhere near being able to stop AF.
The good news is, the triple option is behind us, and now we can go back to how it has been previous games this season: above average, but not elite.
Here’s to hoping that’s good enough for a beat down of BYU.

How bad has Jordan Loves decision making been essentially all year?!? Defense is worn down because of a bad o-line and bad mistakes at QB.

Hard to blame the D being worn down when they moved the ball easily on the opening drive of each half

Defense is embarrassing itself yet again
DJ Williams might as well sit we’re playing 10 on 11 with him out there and their OL is dominating our front

I guess I stand corrected, I was wrong, we miss Woody real bad. Flat out getting out coached too. Will we win two more games is the question now. Hopefully the coaches won't lose the team.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
The defense was a complete embarrassment tonight. The tackling and angles were just garbage. I will say i was impressed with the play calling from their offense. Lots of creativity.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
This is as undisciplined and poorly coached defense as we've had in a decade. The angles these guys take and the technique used is awful. I really wonder if Ena should have a job after the season?

I hadn’t noticed this much, until tonight. But yes, angles and tackling technique was off. We are really gonna miss Woodward.aggies22 wrote:This is as undisciplined and poorly coached defense as we've had in a decade. The angles these guys take and the technique used is awful. Re: how bad is our defense "really"
He was fine as a co-coordinator with Patterson, but prior to that, I can't say I cared for his defense either. He was too conservative as well. Our corners would line up about 50 yards off line of scrimmage back then.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
Our OWN defensive coaching staff has taken Tipa out of the equation. Moving Tipa from outside linebacker to defensive end was the absolute WORST thing they could have done. Last season Tipa was able to use his speed and quickness to take proper angles and elude opposing offensive linemen as he often had several yards to make his move. Forcing Tipa up to the line of scrimmage and putting his hand in the dirt has completely neutralized him. With the opposing offensive lineman now only half a yard away, once the much, much smaller Tipa gets tangled up with the offensive lineman it's game over for Tipa. POOR, POOR choice of position change by our defensive coaching staff.

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
I 100% agree with this. You add in the fact that we have to play zone because we don't have the DB's to play man-to-man and then we get no pressure since our Edge rusher is now has his hand in the dirt it is a recipe for disasteraggies22 wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2019, 1:24 amOur OWN defensive coaching staff has taken Tipa out of the equation. It's like we're purposely doing everything you're coached NOT to do defensively.MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2019, 1:28 amI 100% agree with this. I'm trying to decide if Matt Wells left the cupboard really bare or if we are misusing the talent we have. I know the staff felt like we were short on a few of the skill positions on the offensive side of the ball. I am starting to seriously question the decision to not go after a JC offensive lineman or two.
I don't even know where to begin with our cornerbacks.
I think we have talent at tight end but I don't think we are using a correctly
I don't think we're using the formations and plays necessary in order to get our short Speedy guys in matchup situations that benefit us
I'm not sure anyone on that team knows how to tackle other than Woodward
Thinking that are nose guards can cover both a gaps is absolutely asinine

Re: how bad is our defense "really"
The prior coaching staff severely undervalued recruiting big time talent at WR and the secondary. This is why we are so short handed at those spots. When asked about recruiting I'd heard those positions referred to as "a dime, a dozen."MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2019, 1:37 amaggies22 wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2019, 1:32 amIt's like we're purposely doing everything you're coached NOT to do defensively.MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2019, 1:28 amI 100% agree with this. Last night was just as embarrassing defensively as Air Force. Maybe more. 650 years of offense to that team with their second and third string QBs is pathetic.sammyhagar wrote:Air force only has three points in the third quarter against Army.
