Nebraska also lost by 20 to UC Riverside. They may be a really bad team this year.

Maybe so, I threw that out there that the SUU vs BYU might be something to keep an eye on.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑November 9th, 2019, 10:11 pmNebraska also lost by 20 to UC Riverside. They may be a really bad team this year.

I can still remember the good old days when RG would remind us when one of our OOC opponents that it was so horrible that Stew scheduled lost a game. Cause it was when he would be unhappy with the whole OOC schedule. Most of us agreed with him though, and like it better the way we schedule now.

Being in the MWC has lessened the level of OoC schedule criticality a bit too.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑November 10th, 2019, 8:51 amI can still remember the good old days when RG would remind us when one of our OOC opponents that it was so horrible that Stew scheduled lost a game. Re: Non-conference opponent tracker
Yeah, and the funny thing is that we are scheduling tougher with the lower importance of a tough OOC schedule than did when it was more critical with a weak conference.brownjeans wrote: ↑November 10th, 2019, 9:51 pmBeing in the MWC has lessened the level of OoC schedule criticality a bit too.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑November 10th, 2019, 8:51 amI can still remember the good old days when RG would remind us when one of our OOC opponents that it was so horrible that Stew scheduled lost a game. A short summary of the discussions we had include
1. Nearly everyone complained about us scheduling road games at Jackson State and IPFW, but we all felt the same way and agreed, there wasn't really anyone saying that we SHOULD be scheduling those games. But where some might have different opinions is if we should schedule games at Idaho State and UVU, as those make more sense being easy bus rides and games our fans can go to.
2. There was a big disagreement over a definition of what a "crap" team was. While some teams we scheduled are "crappy teams", there are also teams that can be quality teams but don't have name recognition. And there was a disagreement over if teams from P5 conferences are good or not cause of their name.
3. There would be entire threads about ONE game with a P5 school visiting a mid-major, while ignoring the facts that circumstances were different, which would include being an easy bus ride for the P5 school or the mid-major being located somewhere easier to get to than Logan. Or the P5 school had a kid whose home was close to the mid-major so it was scheduled as a favor.
4. Most of us didn't agree with Stew's philosophy, just some people chose to post about it more than others.
5. People used to suggest that teams were rewarded with good seeds or at-large bids for scheduling the tough teams. There were even jokes that Idaho State and Pepperdine would earn at-large bids for losing to Kansas. But the reality is that you aren't rewarded for losing to anyone, you have to win the tough games to be rewarded.
6. People would blame NCAA Tournament losses on weak schedules, and selectively say other teams win cause they are battle tested. But ignore the teams that schedule tough and still lose in the first round.

One team missing from our non conference this year is uvu. I’ve thought for awhile we should not do a home and home with them. If they want to play they can come to Logan until they prove they are a better program.

Re: Non-conference opponent tracker
UVU has never beaten us basketball. It sounds like they don't want to come to Logan every year. I would like to schedule them every year, but something like a 3 for 1 type deal would work. They are a decent team and at least drive the regional interest. Same type of scheduling could be done with Idaho State and Southern Utah.

I don't mind having a home and home with UVU. It's hard to complain about other teams big timing us and asking for 2 for 1 deals when we do the same to other teams.

UNLV lost to Kansas state in OT in a game they were winning almost the whole time. It was a real bummer loss for the conference. That would've been huge to pick up.

If I remember right, this one was the genesis of the "hats in the mall" inside joke that shows up every now and then.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑November 10th, 2019, 10:14 pm2. Re: Non-conference opponent tracker
I do remember that even before we started playing Southern Utah, Stew didn't want to play them home-home cause they would play at Utah and BYU without demanding a return game, but demanded a return game from us. Then Stew eventually gave in and played them 2 for 1. It's possible that they didn't want to 2-1 anymore cause they could get other teams to give them home-home or good paychecks. Plus, with Duryea being on the hot seat, there's a chance he knew losing at their place would be a fatal blow to his job.

Yeah really. That could be a good win for the conference.Aggie84025 wrote:That was good win for fresno over winthrop
Right now, Nevada, Fresno and SDSU are looking like some good teams and have some good chances to boost the conference. I really hope this year, we get a strong OOC performance from our conference mates all around. Right now, it’s projected that we will have (3) quad 1 games and (3) quad 2 games in conference.
All the pieces are in place for a great season, we just have to perform when the time comes.

Seriously though, we just need Queta back. That will fill the missing hole we have where we're lacking inside scoring and a bit of defense.
I'm only slightly concerned beyond that at defending the best pgs on our schedule.
