Rooting for the Utes to make CFP?

Post by Mr. Sneelock » December 3rd, 2019, 12:41 pm

I find that I am. I don't really know why, exactly. Maybe because it will piss off BYU fans? I seem to get along with Ute fans quite well, and find that generally, they root for the Aggies.

What about you?

No. I don’t have anything against Utah really, but their inclusion in the PAC10 screwed up a perfectly aligned conference. I’m not even supposed to like Oregon, but will be rooting for them.

I won't even bother caring about the game. I think the Utah media cares enough for everyone on the planet.

Should we make CFP window stickers so they can put them next to their pac12 douche stickers? We could make a little money and annoy the byu-provo fans at ther same time.

I am cheering for Utah! A new team would make it much more interesting and enjoyable. Tired of the same Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma teams that make it year in and year out. Probably different for me because I live in Iowa instead of Utah, so I don't deal with Ute and Cougar fans. The only teams I have to deal with and cheer against are the cyclones, hawkeyes, and a few cougar fans at church. I actually like Kyle Whittingham...seems like an okay dude. But like I said, it would probably be A LOT different if I had to interact with Ute fans every day.

I’m rooting for them to win the PAC-12 and then get jumped by Oklahoma. The same accomplishment as a one loss Memphis or Boise. Ha.

No, and it's because of the claim of best all time Utah team. Why? Because they're a p5 school? Give me a break, they've only won 4 games against teams with a record above .500. PAC12 is terrible. Their 2008 team was better, and played better competition.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm rooting for Utah to make the CFP, but I'd much rather see Utah (or any other conference champion) make it than a second SEC team. Granted, if Georgia beats LSU in the SEC CCG, both teams probably deserve a CFP spot, but still... Alabama is out of the running now, but I would have hated to see an Alabama team with zero decent wins get a spot at the expense of Oklahoma or Utah.

I'm a Ute, some else here are too, both Utes and Aggies. For me it's always been Aggies first. Utah doesn't need anymore fans, USU needs all they can get. I have friends here in Ca who are big Ute fans, so when I'm with them I cheer for the Utes. But when I'm not with them. Meh, I don't pay much attention. But man, this is crazy, and all of my other PAC 12 friends are constantly giving me a bad time because I'm a Ute, and I'm like "Meh what eve." So :noidea: Yea good for them

Go Utes! I hate that they won't play us anymore, but will still cheer for them. I'm also cheering for LSU to take down Georgia. I'd be happy with only having 1 SEC team in the CFP this year. Hopefully this starts more expansion talk which could possibly send a MWC champion to the playoffs in the future.

What I really want is a big shakeup in college football.

(Realistically) 8 team playoff comprised of five P5 champions, highest ranked G5 champion, two at large. That way if the stars align for us we at least have a shot.

(Unrealistically) I'd like a separate G5 and P5 championship with relegation between the leagues.

So as far as Utah is concerned, I want whatever will make the most people mad and put pressure to get an expanded playoff.

I think it'll get people riled up if Utah makes the playoffs and shows they belong. I also think it'll help if Oklahoma dominates their bowl so much that it becomes boring so that people will talk about how they were snubbed.

I think I agree with this line of thinking. The better and more prominent Utah is as a program, the more they might feel compelled to recruit out of Utah or to ignore the second tier of Utah prospects in favor of more highly rated guys in Utah or elsewhere that may allow us to sign some guys that Utah may have used to round out their classes. Guys that would be good MW players but Utah may deem themselves too good for at that point.

There's also an association factor - granted no one is mistaking Arkansas State for Arkansas, or Texas State for Texas, but if Utah does well and makes some noise up top, it can't hurt us when it comes to recruiting. I also believe that Utah doing well helps us in recruiting against ybu, so long as ybu remains a G5 Indy school.

Not passionately cheering for Utah, but I'd prefer them over Georgia or OU/Baylor, mostly because I think they'd be the easier opponent for my 2nd school. Also, I don't like the idea of two from one conference getting in. Neither the Big10 or Pac12 have been in the past two playoffs, and the Big12 (read OU) is 0-3 in their playoff appearances. Yes, history does not dictate future, but lets let the PAC12 have another shot at losing.

I used to cheer for the Utes when they were busting the BCS. It was fun to watch them stick it to the system.

But once they got the PAC invite, they dropped that cause as fast a they could cash the first check and now they're just another cog in the money machine.

I find some small amusement in the distress of the Autonomous 5 blue-bloods being pushed aside by a western upstart, but utah is now just like the rest of them as far as I'm concerned. May they rot in hell.

Yes, this. Sooners beating #7 Baylor will likely leapfrog them ahead of Utah. Oregon’s loss to the Sun Devils really hurt the Ute’s chances. I’d prefer to see Utah make it but I think the committee (and the networks) will be looking for any opportunity to put Jalen Hurts and the Sooners in ahead of Utah.

I really hope you’re right but the committee has now said multiple times Utah is better than Oklahoma. If both teams win, I don’t see how you can now put OU higher. I think the rankings will just stay the same.

The only way that could happen is if Oklahoma just annihilates Baylor and Utah squeaks out an ugly win.

I have always pulled for Utah. I was upset when they stopped play us in football and basketball and quit caring, but to be honest and after thinking about it, I do not want to schedule them in football going forward, until we have the revenue to stop playing a money game adding Utah means another game with a school that has many times more revenue than what we do. We need to offer coach's and players as level a playing field as possible. Games with P-5 for money, a game with YBU, and Utah, plus a MWC schedule is to much.
