Re: Kent State Stats
I think we are the better team but the question is motiviation. This is their first bowl since 2012 and could be thier first bowl victory ever (0-2 all time). They could be highly motivated to perform. Where as we may feel disappointed that we couldn't have made a play at winning the division and making a better bowl.
I think we should win but I hope motivation doesn't kick us in the behind.

Comparison of our games similar to their games.....this is strictly based on records and how these teams finished in their conference and then relate it to how the teams in our conference finished. The MAC overall is worse than the MW, but they had quite a few wins vs bowl eligible teams.

Kent State will be a formidable opponent. One thing is you never know how motivated teams are going to be to play in a bowl game. I am hoping the Aggies are ready to play as Kent State is more than capable of winning this game if we are not prepared. I believe this is a game we should win, but there are no guarantees. Hopefully we end the season on a high note.

We have the honor of being the only team Akron has ever beaten in a bowl and we also lost to NMSU, so I wouldn't be too quick to expect a 40 point win over anybody.

Wilson Performance Rating System
#44 Utah State 7-5 795
#97 Kent State 6-6 731
Sagarin
#68 Utah State 7-5 68.86
#105 Kent State 6-6 58.41
ESPN Match-Up Predictor
Utah State 64.6% win probability
Kent State
Massey
#67 Utah State 71% win probability (35-28)
#97 Kent State
As noted above our team will need to be motivated as Kent State surely will be. Given the dismal game prep and effort displayed for the BYU, Air Force, and Boise games I'm not thinking of this game as "being in the bag" at all!
Fingers crossed! Go Aggies!

Re: Kent State Stats
Five home games with games @ Arizona State, @ Auburn, and @ Wisconsin. This team had to go 6-3 to get to a bowl game and has a QB with 18 TD’s to 2 INT. Teams like this are better than their brand, something we should all know about.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑December 8th, 2019, 3:46 pmComparison of our games similar to their games.....this is strictly based on records and how these teams finished in their conference and then relate it to how the teams in our conference finished. Just my opinion that saying other teams we are going to play Suck, or our own players suck is in poor taste. And if you don't think these comments are seen or heard by our opposition, or by players shows a great deal of ignorance. Obviously your clever defensive comments make it OK. My Bad!

Re: Kent State Stats
One thing to note about Kent State is they were 3-6 and then won 3 games to end the season to get bowl eligible. They were all close games. They have a 2nd year head coach who seems like he is turning that program around. They seem a little similar to the 2011 with Gary here. Make no mistake they are going to be super motivated to play this game. I know motivation only takes you so far, but the Aggies better come ready to play. I think they will, but I expect this to be a competitive game.

Hopefully the weather is good for this game, if so I think we have a great chance. If the weather is bad... no so bueno. For some reason we can't play good football in bad weather.
EDIT - Looks like low 50's for the high and high 30's for the low. I'm guessing it's going to be in the high 40's by game time.

Re: Kent State Stats
Do you really believe a poster on a message board is going to be used as bulletin board material? The negative things on here said about byu (which I"m of course fine with) are far worse and there are far more in quantity than ViAggie bringing up an obvious fact that Kent State is not a good football team. Do you think Mark Pope this week is getting his team motivated by bringing up what has been posted on here over the years about byu?Agezzz wrote: ↑December 10th, 2019, 8:47 amJust my opinion that saying other teams we are going to play Suck, or our own players suck is in poor taste. I don't think saying a team sucks crosses any line. There are certainly things that do cross the lines like attacking players personally, but saying a bad team sucks is pretty tame. We need as many fans as possible who are excited about our team and wanting to beat an opponent. A little smack talk would actually be a health thing right now. Much better than apathy.
Oh and one more thing: KENT STATE SUCKS!! I can't wait to see the Aggies absolutely destroy them on December 20th!

Re: Kent State Stats
Kent State has two (2) very big Quarterbacks at 236 and 237 lbs. If I were Kent State I would be heavy on Q B run option plays all game. Steady hammering of our suspect defense overseen and directed by ENA may deliver Kent State a surprising victory as the game moves into the second half.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 8th, 2019, 5:11 pmKent State will be a formidable opponent. Certainly want our AGGIES to get far enough ahead where a steady running game won't serve Kent State well, but that is up to executing and playing with passion....and having position and Coordinators able and talented enough to oversee game prep and real time field adjustments.
