Lack of effort
We are playing like we don't want to win and we are playing like we are scared. Do not know if we just over looked UNLV or if these guys are way better than their record, but it is bad! Never been so dissapointed in the effort and performance of an Aggie team in the last year. It also doesn't help we have made only 1 three pointer!!

Re: Lack of effort
Give UNLV credit. Their athleticism and quickness is killing us on both ends of the floor. We are playing hard they are playing their ***** off.

Re: Lack of effort
You have to win every game. A trap game is not a thing. Every game counts. Our luck is out. The play today is unworthy of wearing aggie blue and white.
Hopefully the team has woken up. Every time this happens someone will eventually post "Hey cool it, the team reads this"
I hope someone reads this board and gets pissed. I'll gladly be the villain if it means there is someone to prove wrong. We played like crap today it's 1 in the F'N morning. So get some fire and beat SDSU.

I think the team already knows they crapped themselves in this game. Really don't think it's going to matter who posts what.Imakeitrain wrote:You have to win every game. A trap game is not a thing. Every game counts. Our luck is out. The play today is unworthy of wearing aggie blue and white.

More tentative play like we saw today will lead to a blowout at home against SDSU

Re: Lack of effort
Agreed. My post was deeply sarcastic- because literally every time we have a board meltdown someone comes on and pretends like we all need to be completely cool with getting blown up like this because "you never know who is reading the board". Nor should they.bigblue wrote: ↑January 1st, 2020, 11:02 pmI think the team already knows they crapped themselves in this game. I'm pretty sure this game is an anomaly. Can't measure future success from this.

Re: Lack of effort
If there was ever an excuse to have a board meltdown it’s this game. These kinda losses are disastrous, especially for mid majors like us competing for an at-large.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑January 1st, 2020, 11:08 pmAgreed. Re: Lack of effort
It’s that DAMN new Nike ball. We are allergic to it just like SDSU.
Look, flush this (I can't express myself without swearing). The team can erase this by beating SDSU on Saturday. If we lose that game in embarrassing fashion, well, it may be time to adjust expectations.

Re: Lack of effort
I don’t think so. This offense has been bad all season long and it showed tonight. We have to improve or we are gonna be in trouble. Watching the offense tonight was like having knives stabbed into my eyes. It was awful.GUS wrote:I'm pretty sure this game is an anomaly. Can't measure future success from this.

Re: Lack of effort
Define anomaly.
I would argue this game was very predictable. Not this game in particular- but that this would eventually happen. There were quite a few games where we would win, but we had long stretches of playing like crap. I think it was very predictable that one of those games would end up with us losing and snowballing against us. One of those games I remember winning by like 30- and we had about 5 minutes of not getting a single point. (I want to say UTSA). Of course it would eventually come back to bite us.

Re: Lack of effort
I suppose we could totally (I can't express myself without swearing) the bed moving forward, but based on how the season had gone before today, the only reasonable conclusion is that this is an anomaly.
This is the only time in the last 50 or so games where we’ve been run out of the gym by a sub-500 school and shot 10% from three.

Re: Lack of effort
I don’t agree with the lack of effort take. I just don’t think we are good enough to overcome going 1-15 from three point range. I also think that their athletic ability really bothered the team overall.

Yep big boy, 13-3 so every game must be this bad.TrueBlueAggie123 wrote: ↑January 1st, 2020, 11:19 pmI don’t think so. This offense has been bad all season long and it showed tonight. Re: Lack of effort
Well with 13 wins to 2 losses before this game, I would say playing this bad was an anomaly. If USU were 2-13 instead it wouldn't be an anomaly. Pretty easy to define.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑January 1st, 2020, 11:21 pmDefine anomaly.

Re: Lack of effort
I think the effort is there with this team, I just don’t think we have a good enough offense. There is little to know ability for anyone to knock down outside shots and there is little to no motion and screening away from the ball to free people up.
Fonzo and Merrill are good at assisting the basket, but Merrill doesn’t get calls and struggles to finish with contract.
Bean is a workhorse, but teams have figured out how limited he is from more than five feet away from the basket.
I still like this team a lot, but there is a lot to be concerned about offensively and I don’t think it is just injury related.

Re: Lack of effort
Interesting. I see the sarcasm tag but aren't you curious? Did the Mountain West Conference just make a mid-season move that took what could have been a dream season for the Aggies and ran it off into a NET oblivion ditch? Does it make you wonder enough to hope someone asks the Utah State staff or players if there has been a change of basketballs? Or is it so silly that you don't even think it is worth asking if even for the sake of trivia if nothing else?ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 1st, 2020, 11:16 pmIt’s that DAMN new Nike ball. Re: Lack of effort
Maybe that really is it. However, I've played a bit of ball myself and I've typically found that with any ball switch I can get used to the new ball after just a couple minutes and then nothing is different. I've found that's the case with most other people too. I'd be surprised if a simple ball change was having that big of an effect on the team.Al-O-Meter wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2020, 8:10 amInteresting. I put a much larger emphasis on the injuries the team is fighting.

Re: Lack of effort
I believe both teams played with the same ball.
I believe that the MW allowed teams to use the ball in practice.
I don't know if your coach used them in practice though I suspect he did.

Re: Lack of effort
The ball didn't cause this loss. We lost because UNLV played with more "G.A.T.A.". Question is where is that get after it effort we were promised? You want to look at a stat that shows why we lost, look at rebounding. 41-29. Rebounding is 90% effort, we didn't have any last night.
Go Aggies!

Re: Lack of effort
Most teams have a clunker or two over the course of a long season. I don't think this is indicative of how the rest of the season will go. Nobody flukes their way to 13 and 3 with wins over 2 SEC schools. You have an excellent team. You also have golden opportunity to get a high quality win on Saturday.
Speaking of the SDSU game, Nathan Mensa did not play last night against Fresno. I don't know what his health status might be. He is SDSU's best rebounder. That could be a factor.

Re: Lack of effort
We have our problems.....but I think we have a good enough team to win a lot of Conference games. Just not enough to finish 1st but not lower than 4th. We should get a decent seed in the Cnf Tourney. By then......I HOPE.....we will be healthy (Queta) and will have a chance to win out. (I hope)

ESPN ran an interesting article back in November that covered the different balls teams use in college basketball:
